The fellow who runs the likker store knows I collect coins, and showed me something he got in the till....Im not a currency guy so I dont know what it is...a $5 silver certificate, yellow seal, series 1934 A ...I think that was it.....any value? avg. circulated condition..

AND (heres the funny part) He tells me he got an OLD nickel, a 1911

I tell him "Yeah, I spend them here, and at the WaWa"

..........for the life of him he could not understand why I do that image

$5... unless you can exchange it for $5 in silver, then it's worth $205. image

That would be a World War II Emergency issue North Africa note. Worth $30+ depending on condition.

I got this out of the till at work a while back.

It stood out not because it was a silver certificate, but just because it was an old-style five. Practically everything I see now are are the new purpley-colored ones. It's gotten to where old small-portrait bills (with the exception of the dollar, of course) are just not so commonly seen.

(The scans are lousy, but it's a 1934-C.)

Yellow Seal = WWII currency for use by US troops in North Africa.

No idea if it would fetch a premium, though.

I took a bunch of average circ. small size $1 silver certificates to a leading dealer over the summer - he wouldn't make an offer and said "spend 'em".

I've seen this a bit too but mostly incorrectly applied. It seems like a tactic for basically telling you "ill take it off your hands for face and it's not worth anything".

Remember, maybe 10-20 years ago dealers were telling collectors/customers to spend small size national notes that were offered. Now they're worth a bit more image

$11.50 if ambro pays the shipping. This is contingent on the currency grading in the MS range.
