1937 three leg Buffalo?

Hey all, I recently had an opportunity to buy a three leg buff nickel very cheap. Is there really a market for these or are the ebay listings that didn't sell an accurate rendition that there is only an inflated market?

It by chance wouldn't have a thumb print on it does it?

That is smoe rare coin with the thumb print.

There are a lot of altered coins of the 1937-D three legged buffalo where the front leg has been expertly removed. Make sure you get it authenticated. If you get us a decent pic, perhaps we can help.

Oh no. There's no market for these. I'll send you a good nickel for all the 3-legged ones you have. Assuming of course, it's real and not one of the 3 leg counterfeits. Yes, it's so popular it's been a target
of counterfeiters.

Why is it if something doesn't sell it's an inflated market? Prices fluctuate in a free market. Too much supply or lack of buyers, price goes down ... hello.

There's always market for 1937-D 3-legged buffaloes. A lot of them don't sell because the sellers aren't having true auctions where they start low enough to get bids, or they're not auctions at all; they're those eBay stores. It's not just coins, either. A lot of things don't sell for the same reason. The golden age of eBay is gone. The place is fuddernuttered up these days.

I should have noted, it's MS-65. Unsure if it's PCGS or NGC though. I haven't seen the coin yet, but I am told by my source that it's a legit one and not an altered 4-legger.

It's $48,000 in the price guides. The last Heritage sale was slightly higher. And you come here for advice, not seeing the coin? Don't know what slab it's in?

If it is in plastic then i would run the serial number once you find out who graded it and make sure it's not a counterfit coin in a counterfit slab.

Let us know how purchasing an "MS-65" three-legged buffalo (presumably 1937-D, but unstated) "very cheap" from a "quite reliable" source works out for you.

You'd better post photos of the coin here before you buy it, so we can confirm it's genuine.

Along this same topic I guess, I wanted to share my PCDS MS69 4 1/2 Leg Variety! Highest Graded Buffalo I believe. I too bought it on eBay! Sorry for the photo but it is the best I have from the seller. Do you think it will cross?

In general this is an over-hyped variety as far as rarity. They are usually available by the bucketloads in
major auctions and on flea-bay. But there are so many fakes floating around the novice had better be careful. If you want one I would go for a nice AU55 to AU58,
