Hey all, I recently had an opportunity to buy a three leg buff nickel very cheap. Is there really a market for these or are the ebay listings that didn't sell an accurate rendition that there is only an inflated market?
Thanks,
Jeremy

There are a lot of altered coins of the 1937-D three legged buffalo where the front leg has been expertly removed. Make sure you get it authenticated. If you get us a decent pic, perhaps we can help.

even if there was a thumb print, could always crack it out and "conserve" it

Why is it if something doesn't sell it's an inflated market? Prices fluctuate in a free market. Too much supply or lack of buyers, price goes down ... hello.

There's always market for 1937-D 3-legged buffaloes. A lot of them don't sell because the sellers aren't having true auctions where they start low enough to get bids, or they're not auctions at all; they're those eBay stores. It's not just coins, either. A lot of things don't sell for the same reason. The golden age of eBay is gone. The place is fuddernuttered up these days.
I will keep you updated!
<< <i>I should have noted, it's MS-65. Unsure if it's PCGS or NGC though. I haven't seen the coin yet, but I am told by my source that it's a legit one and not an altered 4-legger.

An MS-65 3-legged buffalo nickel and it's "very cheap"? Smoething doesn't sound right about this.

Maybe it's an MS-63 5-legged buffalo nickel?
<< <i>I use the word "cheap" in relative terms. >>
It's $48,000 in the price guides. The last Heritage sale was slightly higher. And you come here for advice, not seeing the coin? Don't know what slab it's in?
You are a pigeon waiting to be taken. 99-1 it's counterfeit.

<< <i>Okie doke. I'm glad you gave me your opinion and I respect it based on the facts given but my source is quite reliable. So...believe what you wish
If your "source is quite reliable" you wouldn't be here asking us questions.
You'd better post photos of the coin here before you buy it, so we can confirm it's genuine.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
<< <i>Along this same topic I guess, I wanted to share my PCDS MS69 4 1/2 Leg Variety! Highest Graded Buffalo I believe. I too bought it on eBay! Sorry for the photo but it is the best I have from the seller. Do you think it will cross? >>
Ummm... I don't think that 1/2 leg is actually a leg!

But the important question is do you think it will cross at MS69...or will it only get MS68?...do you think they will attribute the variety...or is it too minor as they say with so many of the other varieties? Thanks for your help Larry!

<< <i>I wouldn't call that minor!!
That's kinda what I was thinking. I would think it is a medium variety.

major auctions and on flea-bay. But there are so many fakes floating around the novice had better be careful. If you want one I would go for a nice AU55 to AU58,
