200+ yr old colonial freed from its plastic tomb
I have been looking for a Nova copper for a long time, always liked the design just never found one in the shape and price that I liked.
Well a few months ago I found this and after negotiating down to 400 dollars it was mine. Many of you may find the destruction of the plastic as sacrilege
but all my other colonials are free of plastic and I have a hard time enjoying my 200+ yr old colonials through modern plastic.

What kind of other Colonials do you have?
(i.e. I never knew you had a colonial collection before!)
Beautiful coin, always wanted one myself.
Now put it in a PCGS slab! Where it belongs!
example since that is graded VF and with that coin having a TPG grade that high assigned has a lot of value.

Yes. I, for one, fell better now.

<< <i>Nice problem free planchet, but what's the cause of the sloppy lettering in Nova? >>
The dies had started to rust, and this caused the lettering and some of the other details on that side of the coin to appear "fuzzy".
I've always found that die variety to be kinda cool, actually.
BTW -- the coin looks MUCH better out of that slab, IMO.

like many others, I too think it looks better free ... and somehow, I think the coin feels better too
nice pickup!

<< <i>coin now lives in a PVC free flip where I can easil take it out and enjoy. Same way I store most of my lower grade early US coins. >>
Good choice. I use Safeflips for all my unslabbed coins.

<< <i>Wonderful coin and a great price! Congrats. Plastic is plastic, you could always get it re-slabbed by either service if you're of a mind to. >>
Agreed. And as long as you're confident of the authenticity, you can just enjoy it raw now and get it slabbed again before you sell. (Just another public service announcement: For those of you who do this and have non-collector spouses or other heirs, please make sure they know how to go about getting cracked out valuable coins like these slabbed before they sell!)
