Here's some very important advice.
.
One year ago this morning I kissed my wife Jean goodbye, told her I loved her, and
went to work. In the afternoon I got a call, and went home to find her unconscious in the ER. She never recovered.
.
Tell the people that you love that you love them. Make that call. Make that visit.
.
You do not know what tomorrow brings.

You are exactly right. I tell my gal and my kids "I love them" every time we hang up the phone or part company and we mean it. We never know when the last chance will be. It costs nothing to do and means everything to those you care about.
Thanks for sharing.
Sorry for your loss, brother.
You are a good man and your wife, must have been a very
special woman.

I had a similar thought this morning when I hugged and kissed my wife and son goodbye. They are only going up to camp a couple of days before I join them, but I will miss them and I had a brief thought that I should make our parting words ones of love 'just in case'.
Thanks for the caring reminder. Deepest condolences for your loss.
I try to say I love you to those I care about deeply
and this is a very fitting reminder.

Last month my friend, Bob Bruce, died, which I wrote about in here. A month before he died, he and I corresponded alot for a few weeks. He wanted so much to come to Pittsburgh for the ANA show, for just one day, and asked me to have dinner with him. 2 weeks later he said he was just too sick and couldn't do it. He said he'd always valued my friendship (since 1999), wanted me to know that, and told me he loved me. I'd always help him with anything I could at shows, whether I was working for him or not. We had a couple funny stories that were funnier after the fact, including a couple years ago when I saw him last. I knew when he shared his heart with me, he knew his time was short. I was able to tell him I loved him too. Not everyone gets that chance. Not just our spouses or significant people need to be told - we also need to tell our friends what they mean to us. I didn't expect Bob to pass so early, but am so greatful for the emails we shared, and that we could share those few precious thoughts... they mean alot to me now. This was MY personal post, but your message struck me and I had to share.
Life is short. In Pittsburgh a few days ago 4 people died in a 9' flash flood, including a wonderful mother and 2 of her beautiful children, 12 and 8 year old girls. Mom was found in the back seat holding onto them, thank God. The other lady was 72, and she'd gotten out of her car, only to fall into a manhole as she tried to get away. Today are their funerals.
So yes, don't wait and hope to have those last words, say them TODAY.
God bless you CaptHenway.
I knew it would happen.

Definitely puts all of the nonsense in life in perspective! In the final days, hours, and minutes, what do we really have if not each other....
Excellent reminder to us all.
For this.....
I thank you.

...please accept my condolences.
Good advice, we are here but for a moment and the only thing of true value we possess on this earth is the love we receive from others and give in return.
The attitude of loving-kindness and compassion towards all beings should be everyone's goal.
i too have experienced it first hand.
My deepest condolences on the anniversary of your loss, Tom.
