Its looks like and smells like a "Hit". How many times have we seen scenarios in movies where criminals take something to make it look like a robbery??? And the killers took him after they beat him up and a mile away they leave the car with him inside and walk away bloody as if nothing happened? Why not just grab his "goods" and leave him there where they first assaulted him...Why take him with them? Hope they catch these criminals soon! Condolence to his family.

If you ever lived in the kick-tail NY, NJ area, you would not find that comment odd at all.

It was a great place to find coins, but you had to watch your back in more ways than one.

If they wanted to kill him, why take him away? And if it was a kidnapping, why dump the body?

Coin dealer Steve Halfon robbed, slain near his Brooklyn shop

A Brooklyn coin dealer died Tuesday after a group of thieves pummeled him near his shop and dumped his battered body a mile away, police sources said.

Steve Halfon, 61, had just closed his shop, Liberty Coin Co. on Kings Highway in Gravesend, and was walking to his car when three men ambushed him just before 5:30 p.m., the sources said.

The men beat Halfon to a pulp, stuffed him in a black Volvo sedan and drove away, sources said. They dumped his body on East Seventh St. near Avenue N in Midwood and abandoned the car two blocks later, sources and a witness said.

"One guy gets out, covered in blood, and walks down the street like nothing happened," said a witness. The suspect threw his bloody T-shirt, a Yankees hat and a gray hoodie in a sewer before running away with the two others, the witness said.

I guess I just find it weird that the friend was complimenting the killers. That's how I read it. Whether it was good or not, if it were my friend I'd be too angry/sad/tore up to compliment them. Maybe it's just my midwest upbringing.

I believe he's explaining a likely motive for the killing, not complimenting the killers.

probably so. Also, it's impossible to read the tone of voice of the person quoted. On print it sounds bad. In person she may have easily been upset or even misquoted.

And people still wonder why I am always armed. If he had a handgun and knew how to use it, he would likely be alive today.

I agree , either we havn't got the facts which with todays media is no surprise or something doesn't add up. They beat the guy to death and then take his body elsewhere ?

Glad NYC is one of the safest places in America with gun control and allimage Around my neck of the woods it would be a lot more risky to just approach someone on the street but thanks to the politicians disarming the law abiding public for their welfare it's a concrete jungle isn't it? Very sad indeed.

<< <i>Unfortunately it appears that he was some sort of planned target, possibly one obvious scenaroi was that it appears many knew he had money on him, and owned a B&M thus would be a target for the scum. If there were other personal reasons to be a target that is up to an investigation. I am from NYC and am not surprised by the ruthlessness of the act and feel for the victim and his family and hope they catch the perps. Yes it is too bad he wasn't heavily armed, would have loved to have read that he was wounded and three dead perps met their demise. I hope jsutice catches up to them swiftly. Politically this country is in trouble and I hope we get new blood in the WH, the big O is obviously terrible and glad the big B can't run again. >>
