...pay for something that you win on the BST board, or any auction site? Then, what are your expectations for shipment of your winnings?
In any venue I pay immediately. Then I expect the seller to ship within 24-48 hours. If they take longer I would expect an e-mail stating such. I don't feel like my expectations are unreasonable. Just curious if I am in the minority here or if most people expect the same. My most recent BST deal was paid for literally withnin MINUTES of an agreed upon transaction. The seller still has not confirmed to me that the item has been shipped, despite emails requesting such info., and as the mail delivery today, no coin!

Im sorry! He is usually a great seller!

On an auction venue (eBay, Heritage, Teletrade, etc.) I conform to the payment rules of that particular venue, or in the case of eBay, the terms of sale. On eBay, if I do not receive the item within the eBay calculated expected timeframe, I open a case. Gentlemanly auctions of a century or so ago, 30 days was frequently adequate. The longest I ever waited for an eBay item was approximately five months.
When I sold on eBay, I fould that most people would pay within a few days, but I would open a case when eBay rules allowed, used to be seven days, I think. I have not yet sold anything on BST.

<< <i>I thought he posted a PUBLIC comment that the item was shipped on Thursday after you posted a reply to his active BST thread. Today is Saturday. Not exactly the type of time frame to get excited about. Unless this is a different deal, you are WAY too edgy IMO. Your first thread was a legitimate concern that you might be getting ripped off. The posted responses and the disclosure of the sellers unique job kind of alleviated that concern. If somebody who nobody else has had any trouble with tells me he shipped on Thursday, I'm not running to the CU Forum with a 'wheres the coin' thread on Saturday. >>
Perhaps this deal is for a very special coin.

He stated he planned to ship on Thursday. I requested in an email for him to confirm shipping. Still no response! I don't care how busy a seller is, communication is key. This guy has not/does not respond. He planned to ship it is not a confirmation of shipment!

<< <i>If I pay by Paypal, I just expect a pm back as to when the coin will be sent, and then a tracking #. Because of work, some sellers may not be able to get a coin out of the sdb or get to the PO until the weekend; that's no problem if they let me know. Good point. If this is the same uncompleted deal that was discussed earlier this week I don't think the coin was ever disclosed. If it's like the other stuff seller has on BST thread, its in the range of $50-$200. If this isn't the same deal then none of my comments are material and I apologize.

To some, a $50 to $200 coin may be very special. My six year old godson gets impatient if a toy I order for him online does not arrive the next day.
I work for the Navy as a Nuclear Engineer, and I work on their submarine training platform. It must be maintained 24 hours a day, so this week I was on the midnight shift. I'm sorry for any delay.
That is he public reply word for word. Is your concern over whether you will get the coin or are you simply upset that he hasn't communicated directly with you? If it's the former, I think your unnecessarily worried. If it's the later, I agree with you it hasn't been a case example for good customer service.

Good point Frank! ....and good observation too!
When I spend my money I expect a certain level of customer service, and this guy falls way short! That is the focus of this thread. What are other's expectations? I do not believe that expecting a seller to communicate is unreasonable. Now that I think about it he didn't even confirm that he got his money! Now, the money is out of my account AND he certainly didn't tell me that he didn't get it!

We collect coins. We have to get used to bad service, overgraded and mis-described merchandise, grumpy and insulting dealers, hyper-critical evaluation of our coins from other collectors, ridiculous low ball offers when we or our heirs go to sell. It is all part of the hobby we love so much.

I'm retired but I know a lot of sellers have a day job so if I get it in a week or 10 days, I'm satisfied. It's a real plus if they send me an e-mail letting me know that it has been shipped so I can be on the look-out for the package. Many times they'll send me a tracking number which is really good customer service.

I would hope to get it within a couple of weeks or so of my payment being received.
As a buyer, because I pay immediately, I expect the seller to mail it to me within two working days, but am sometimes disappointed by a seller; not too often though.

In my defense, Bob emailed me on June 15th at 5PM, and I responded to his email within an hour. I told him the coin would ship on Thursday. Being a man of my word, I did not realize that I needed to then email him again and tell him I did what I said I would. My mistake - apparently there is no trust in the world anymore.
I understand Bob is anxious to get his coin, but I honestly thought my simple email reply would be sufficient. Sorry.
Group A- Laid back. They've already done their homework about the coin (s) they are buying and you or your company. They are confident. In general they won't give it a second thought until one week has passed from the time they paid, and the coin has not arrived.
Group B- Views every coin purchase as though they have just bought an organ required to sustain life for themselves or a loved one. Requires tracking on every purchase and is quick to fire out an email if they don't hear from the seller after the purchase. Many don't realize (especially ebayers) that if dealing with a business, they are probably closed on weekends and won't be able to respond immediately.
I personally am a Group A person all the way. I buy lots of stuff online and could care less about emails that follow after the purchase. I wait patiently and about 90% of the time my goods arrive within a week. We see more Group A from our website buyers and more group B from our eBay buyers.
Now, I understand we wanna make sure someone is home to sign etc, but looking at the larger picture here, don't we have better things to do with our time then to look online repeatedly (just look at the ATB threads, holy cow these guys live tracking their USM purchases) just to see that their package has moved from Moline, Il to Chicago? C'mon.
Expectations for delivery of anything under a week, unless overnight shipping is involved, is IMO unreasonable. Things happen. We live in an imperfect world. Final point, emails don't always work. We've become such an email (and now text) society that we forget about using the phone when it is more appropriate. If you have a number calling will yield a better, faster result most of the time. I love email and text but it is over-used. There are also many instances of email "tone" creating problems where there are no problems.
None of this is intended to imply that you should not expect customer service or settle for poor service, I just think some people would do better to keep things in perspective and try to be reasonable and realistic instead of stressing over shipping.

I still would love to know the coin involved. If you REALLY cared, you would give the buyer a full refund, AND the coin, AND another nice coin as a free bonus.

This was the coin involved. I am not going to be keelhauled into giving away a $200 coin to someone I don't even know because there was a misunderstanding with an overanxious buyer. I did make him the offer that he could return the coin for a full refund if he wasn't satisfied.

In all fairness to Physicsfan314 he did respond to my PM's on Saturday evening, the 18th. I paid him on Monday the 13th with a request that he notify me when the coin was mailed. HIs response on the 18th was quite caustic, but at least he responded! I never received the email he allegedly sent. If I had, it would have been sufficient. Had he responded to one PM I would have been satisfied. He did not. This was the first time I had ever dealt with Physicsfan314, if I had a "track record" with him I would not have even requested a shipping date. I have dealt with Manofcoins, PCcoins, Quattrocoins, on this forum and had zero problems. They are all very professional. Physicsfan314 stated that he rarely posts on this forum, and that I should have known that. I did not know that at the time. He stated that he uses the BST board here because it has much more traffic, but mainly posts ATS. I never post ATS so I did not know about his self-professed stellar reputation "over there." The purpose of the thread was to solicit other's expectations when it comes to communication, not just when the BST board is involved, but in any venue.
