BST Communication

I paid for an item (electronically) on the BST board on Monday. The seller communicated fine until after I paid. I requested that he advise me when the item ships.... I followed up with a couple of different questions and now he doesn't respond. How long should I wait for a response?

Clear, honest and frequest communications on the BST is very important. I generally ship next day and try to get the tracking info to the buyer after shipping. A couple times I've gotten busy and the tracking gets to them a little later. I don't know what the other questions pertained to, and perhaps the seller is busy and didn't get back. If they are about the transaction in question a quicker response is better than a delayed one, especially when someone has already paid. 24 hours on a BST transaction is reasonable, though I try to get back to people quicker if possible because that makes everyone feel easier. We seem to be talking a little over a day here, so I wouldn't be too worried yet. Having said that, everyone has a comfort level. I wouldn't be too worried about a dollar amount I deem small, I may become anxious for a dollar amount I deem large.

As a side note, if your questions were about the transaction, I would generally recommend asking before paying.

Things happen and people forget. I would give him or her until Friday or Saturday provided that you paid by PayPal or charge card and have an effective means to reverse the transaction if necessary.

He was paid via Paypal gift. So I have little to no recourse.

The only time I pay with "Gift" is when it's a gift. I hope people read this thread and realize the implications of using this method of payment. Sorry about this , Bob. I don't mean to joke about the "vacation" because if you got ripped off, it isn't funny at all.

TS2aC I typically avoid the "gift" function.... It is "only" 165.00 (so no vacation), and I won't lose a wink of sleep if I was ripped off. My hope is that I will eventually get a response from the seller and I will receive the coin as well. The intent of my post was to see what is typical AND to communicate with BST sellers that a simple message as to the status of an item's shipment should be communicated once the seller has received payment. I can deal with untimely shipping of an item. It's the uncertainty that's difficult to accept. Especially on an initial transaction with a seller.

It's summer so people travel, plus if it's a dealer they may be on the way to Baltimore. I'd give it an extra few days for a response.

Has the seller signed into forum since you PM'd them? I agree with OP, seller should acknowledge payment and shipping date. That takes only a few minutes to do and if your selling an item you should atleast make that effort.

Self answered.... Yes, yes it was necessary. I have only two experiences on the BST before this one. Both of those were good experiences. In all respects, communication, timeliness, and satisfaction levels. This one has made me uneasy due to a lack of communication. So, with my lack of BST experience I posted this thread to learn what is acceptable. I thought that was what this forum was all about. Learning form the experiences of others!!

Now, before I read the part where they bumped their own posts, I figured, they could have gotten busy, or shipped and forgot to PM you back, ect. However, logging in to bump an item, you'd have to be blind to not see you have a PM, and rude to not answer. Even if you are very busy or just forgot, just send a PM saying so and you'll get back to them. If they keep blowing you off, rat them out and take the steps to get your money back.

Too soon to " out the seller ". I have had several hundred transactions on the BST forum and never had a problem. Some members are busier than others and don't communicate as promptly. Give it a couple of more days. I always give my phone number once an agreement on a deal is reached, and usually receive one in return.

I'm getting progressively more suspicious of sellers who require "GIFT" on coin for sale transactions.

Was the deal that tight that 2.9% was important?

Too early to out anybody IMO. If I were you I would go to their 'bumped' items and post a reply (not a PM, an actual reply) to the effect:

'Please check your PM on earlier item'

See if that doesn't get them to check their PM. Sounds like a careless seller but not necessarily a criminal one...at least not yet.

Finally, I see nothing wrong with starting the thread seeking advice on how to handle a BST matter where someone has only 2-3 prior transactions there and doesn't want to offend our easily offended audience...but doesn't want to get ripped off either. Good luck, hope it works out and I predict it will.

That's a really good simple idea. I haven't done it in the past, but I believe I will incorporate it into future deals. Seems like a really simple way to build in an additional level of trust and confidence that the seller can be reached at the buyers convenience...not the sellers. Good idea. Thanks.

Most of the time, even despite me having the DEVIOUS alias, the buyers of things I've sold on the BST voluntarily paid via gift. I don't mind. I guess that's why I asked for the gift payment the last time I posted something for sale. And nobody responded. Haha! But I also send things out immediately the following day or even the same day. I'm more suspicious of those who hardly communicate after they receive the money. It's hardly business like and it really makes the buyers paranoid. There needs to be more 'customer service' involved when commencing a transaction online, period! Forget whether the seller is on the pooper, watching tv, has kids, whatever...You made a deal, you got their money, now communicate. Make the buyer not have to worry about whether or not they're actually going to get the purchased item or items.

Greg I took your advice and posted on his BST thread! He bumped it at 6 this evening and still did not respond to my PM's regarding info on shipping something I paid for on Monday morning. Immediately after we had a deal on one of his items!

Here are my 2c on the issue.

I dont understand why so many here give others so much room when it comes to bst transactions. There have been several horrible BST transactions on this board and for some reason many here think its okay to pay for an item and then simply not hear any thing for a week or weeks at a time. It takes one minute max to hop on the forum and send someone a tracking number. I dont understand why people think its okay to pay for an item and not get a response after the fact. IMO if you sell an item or are selling items here on the bst then when the item sells ship the item asap and send tracking info, if you dont have time to ship the item asap and send tracking info then dont sell on the bst here, if you are busy then wait till you have time to devote the 20 min it take to package and ship an item. I would never sell an item to someone and not ship it the very next day and send a tracking number, I wont accept that kind of service when I purchase items and I sure as heck wont give that kind of service to someone else when they purchase from me. There are of course times when emergency's will happen and that is understandable but out side of that I just dont see why so much room is given when it comes to this type of transaction.

A lot of people joined this forum the last couple of years, have virtually no positive contribution, have no profile, have nothing positive to say and many joined to just BST for free. Maybe they can't get an ebay acct because they have no CC, who knows.

I have witnessed a significant rise in bad outcome BST the last year. Probably more than in the 5 preceeding years.

Be careful...times are lean for a lot of people and use due diligence now more than ever.

It's a much busier forum here and a very busy BST. If the guys so well known i doubt anything untoward is occuring other than a break down in comms.

Agree. I want to know who this seller is so I can think twice before buying from this person. Maybe I've been lucky but I've had many great transactions on the BST and great communication has been part of every transaction. In every transaction, I send the other person my cell phone number---that's how important good communication is to me.

That is a good reason. BUT the fact remains that if he has time to "bump" his own thread why can he not respond to a buyer's simple inquiry as to the status of a sold item? Communication is all I asked for. If he needs a week to ten days to ship that is fine, just let me know! Perhaps a learning experience for all.... we each may have learned something a little different. I'll update when something changes/happens.... I still find it odd that he cannot answer my PM's! He responded to my offer but will not respond to anything else!

Larry I applaud your optimism! All he said was that he will ship the item today, not that he has shipped already! Quite a difference in my book! My situation primarily involved the lack of communication. He still has not communicated anything to me since he agreed to our transaction. Posting a response on his BST thread is lackluster at best! I requested shipping details in a PM to him on a few occasions, and as of this minute he still will not confirm that he has/or will ship anything!
