Deal on the BST gone wrong **avenue7 is the userid**

I did a deal on the BST on May 21st. I sent $900 to the seller on May 22nd for the item. He messaged me that day saying, "Payment received, will ship out Tuesday, May 24th'". After that, I received no tracking number and I have messaged him twice once on May 27th and once on May 28th and received no response. If the guy did indeed ship this priority, I should have it by now, but I don't.
What do you guys think my steps should be?
Edit: I am going to reveal the user. His name is, "avenue7". The post link is here: BST Link. I have filed a dispute through paypal and hopefully should have some closure on this issue soon. Thanks to everyone who have given their suggestions and thoughts thus far!

No offense, but you don't either....BUT, has the member been around long? Also, I hope it wasn't 'gifted' via Paypal...'gifted', and you're sunk....

Try contacting him again in the next day or so. It's a holiday weekend- he may be away from home. Also- four days for Priority Mail is not enough time to be sure there's a problem to begin with.
Maybe it was sent Registered Mail?
Where is the user located given the Tornadoes in the MidWest?
As long as you paid with PayPal, you should be covered and I for one would simply keep trying to make contact. Perhaps reply to the thread the purchase was made from?

Hoard the keys.
Check out BST members before completing any transaction in the future though.
All kidding aside, I would give it a few more days.

1: email the seller one final time
2: if he doesn't respond withing 48 hours, file a claim with paypal - that should get his attention!
If he shipped it priority, it "should" be there within 3 days, assuming he was able to get it right out.
For $900, he may have shipped it registered, which can take a bit longer (1-2 weeks is not uncommon).
It's been less than 1 week. While it would have been nice of him to send it and send you the info, was that talked about beforehand?
Depending on who the person is, it could be no concern or a concern.
For your next step.....give it a few more business days of patience (did something come up and he couldn't make the post office? If he insured it over $500, then it had to be done at a teller window, I believe....I have to do that with all the ones I send out with insurance over $500).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Just a note and FYI: Up to $5000 in insurance can be purchased online at usps.com.

+1
With the holiday, I am sure things got a little backed up. I'd give it till Tuesday or Wednesday as others have said then try to PM him/her again.

unfortunately you didn't see this earlier issue.
I hope things work out.
Post paypal account name you sent money to, may not be too late for others.

He said he used a credit card. How can you use PP gift with a CC?

When there are no funds in your paypal account paypal allows you to fund a gift payment with your bank account (default) or with your credit card (change payment source).

i go overboard even an^l when doing a BST as far as conditions shipping, getting cell phone #'s and email addresses. and restating them in each PM with someone i haven't done a BST before.

Well spotted , impressive Sir
I'm guessing you didn't ask for any references though. If it's someone you've never dealt with before, always ask for references regardless of how long they've been on the forum or how many posts they have. But especially ask if it's a relatively new user with a low post count.
Not too big of a deal for you this time though since you should be 100% covered with your credit card, even if PayPal doesn't step up to the plate. Consider yourself lucky!

I see no reference to the OP using payment via PayPal "gift".
Where did you see this?

One thing that I have done is, unless it is a low amount, I don't buy from new folks (sorry). I particularly watch and see if the seller participates on the coin forums or only the BST.

It sucks but what can one do aside from take the right steps to rectify it. I'm sure I'll have my money back sooner than later.

I read minds and know things that others can only guess at. (seller required it in the locked BST post).

After the fact? Probably just what you are doing. Work through paypal. Most likely, if a scammer, they pulled the money immediately and are going to try to shaft paypal. Hopefully, you will be made whole by paypal.
Beforehand? Pass on some nice deals until finding a buyer that you can trust a bit more...has been around, does more than just BST if somewhat new, etc.

Yes it does but I would make two observations.
First the number of bad apples on BST as a percentage of sellers is small as compared to alternative sites like FleaBay.
Secondly, and more importantly, unlike FleaBay who does little to get rid of problem sellers so long as they are generating lots of revenue, the self policing action of the BST crew is unmerciful in outing clowns who don't do what they are supposed to do.

What he said. If so then he ate a fee of about $26 too.
Nearly 100 transactions on the BST, without a single issue.
Best of luck to you,
Scott
I'm unclear about whether this was a PayPal gift or not. If so I think your only recourse is a charge-back through your credit card bank. I imagine PayPal gets smug when you try to collect after gifting.
I've had a hundred BST transactions with never the smallest problem. I've even had coins shipped to me before payment and I've shipped coins before getting paid. But always with established members. I still think it's the safest place to buy and sell.
Lance.

That's the key. Doing business with established members that have good track records and can provide references if needed.
