melt is $33. So $35 would be a great price but I suspect more like $37

I would never pay above melt for any culled coin.

Pay melt... the smelters will not even pay that much. Cheers, RickO
  • That depends on what day of the week it is. By next Tuesday, they'll be worth 7% more. Case in point: I bought five raw XF Morgans for $30 each a few days ago. I may have had the honors of being the last person on the planet other than a shop owner ever to get that price.

Today at a coin show I sold F-VF pre-1921 Morgans for $32 each. I was paid $31 for a 1921-S. So if you can get them for $35 I think you did OK.

I was at a coin show 1 week ago (silver was lower) and dealers were selling them for $35 last week.

Yo...FYI...today April 15...dealer bid price for pre-1921 Morgans VG or better is $36 and the bidders will take bag quantities (1000 coins to a bag). You would be lucky to pay $37/$38. AG/G coins dealers probably pay $35 or so. VG or better 1921 Morgans and Peace dollars probably worth a dollar or so less.

Note: these coins are extremely hot and dealer supplies (the big bag dealers) are pretty low.

    Hope info helps...hrh

There is a small Curio / Book store not far from me that has a case of 20 or 25 raw Morgans and a few Peace Dollars all at $30 each. I don't have any spare cash or I'd pick up a few.

I wouldn't pay over melt for any cull coin.

Dave ... what is the going rate for culled coins? After all, there is a lot of worn of silver, and the OP specifically asked for info on culled Morgan or Peace.

i am in no way connected to this seller but these on ebay (10 available; free shipping) seem like a bargain, and you get a stickered dollar to boot (I know a few years back Cliff Mishler was collecting stickered Morgan and Peace dollars)

correction: i re-read the Ebay auction and he has MORE than 10 available but his posting does allude to the fact that he might be raising the price soon FYI

Good luck getting these prices for culls at a show. Word from Santa Clara is that boatloads were coming out of the woodwork at these prices and the dealers are full.

I took $29 a piece and was grateful.

Culls get about $29.50 now when selling.

The OP was asking about buying. Not sure of the spread on culls.

I was on a cull rampage for a while. Bought these in late Nov of 2005, for $6.50 each.
Kind of a stupid purchase, silver was around $8.
Things sure have changed, wish I bought more.
