Looks like an example of a MS65 coin that got a 64 because they "weren't sure" .

End roll toned ? Baked ? you be the judge

I can say that it will bring huge money

I spoke too soon ..........this is the brother coin in the same auction ; graded PCGS MS 66 !

I guess they were "sure" and the MS 64 is really a MS 64 .

I can say that this MS 66 will sell for MORE then HUGE money !!!

i think the gold and silver prices are bringing out some outrageous rainbow toned end roll coins ? these coins have been locked up from the early 1960's until now , i think it's the real deal !!

I know one thing I would stay far away from it, looks some some of the homegrown toning you see on e-bay. Makes you wonder who is doing the grading anymore at the services. If they would bag coins like this consistently,there would be alot less of it going on, after all your not hurting someone when you net it down a point or two as most of the time they take a mid range unc and do this, there money is not dependant on the grade just getting it into a problem free holder is what the ATer wants. If it does not get into a holder,they just dip it off and it is still a mid range unc. If you go back to before certification, when coins like this came up for auction, B&M,Stacks,Goldberg ect had no problem calling coins like this AT, they pretty much stopped doing that if a coin is certified by pcgs,ngc,anacs.

No not alot of the time they dont in my opinion. Also look any old school collection, Eliasberg,Pittman, Pryor ect, and tell me if there were ANY coins that even resembled what we are seeing today, I have had coins since the 70s in all types of holders, albums, storage conditions ect, NONE even come close to looking like like that POS. Just my opinion.

I bet you they are both NT.... they were probably stored improperly in a hot enviorment. Could have been a garage in a trunk etc.

IMO, stored improperly in a hot environment is AT, not NT. But the more I think about it, the more I realized that the line between the two is so blurred that the only thing that matters is whether it's Market Acceptable or not.

.I see some PCGS Franklins at Heritage tonight are going for extremely strong prices -

and the past month or so there has been mind bending dollar amounts being spent on nice colored one's as well .

I watch/study Franklin prices as well as anyone and I can say with out a doubt ; colorful , professionally graded examples are going through the roof

Ehhhhh, I'm not sure. It could be EOR, as I've seen some IMO NT 1963's that look like that, although not quite as vibrant (which could be an image issue). OTOH, I've never seen a '56 look anywhere near like that. Let's just say, I won't be bidding on them.

There's more to this statement than meets the eye.

Last month at the Vienna, VA show there was a group of original paper wrapped rolls of roosies and Franklins that were LOCKED down in a dealer's display. Over them laid a "sold" sign. He sold them for melt'ish price. I could see wild MONSTER colors on the end of several of the rolls. The dealer let me peak and these end-roll coins were sick, one of the Franklins had something similar to the OP coins just a little more developed deeper color. I tried to bribe the dealer into talking the buyer into letting me buy the end -coins - to no avail. And so I had to watch those coins walk out the door. The new owner did not care one bit about the end coins.

Another local dealer took me into his safe. He had just acquired an entire collection of morgans in paper rolls. There were thirty or forty. A half dozen rolls had deep end toned color. He didn't really know what to do with them and had already sold the roll with the "best" color according to him.

These are just two examples but I bet this is happening many times over every day.

Well, if the coin went for > $2k it was most certainly "market acceptable". At least for the ones who were bidding.

AT or NT? Who cares? I certainly don't. The only thing I care about is how it looks to me. And I find it hideous.
