I have been having all kinds of problems identifying all these different variations on these things. I listed some yesterday on ebay and people are asking me if they are variety A,B,or C on the WDDR 001's and I look at them under a dinoscope and I can't see any difference in them.

So maybe these identifiers can help you out Pitboss.
These are pretty minor things I think. If it is a WDDR 001, the only difference I think is where in the stage of minting did each thing develop to make it an A,B, or C. I have so many of these coins that I am not going to get involved in that. As far as I am concerned they are all WDDR 001 or WDDR 02 ect ect ect. Thanks for trying to help. Steve
I too have had some inquiries on the stages, and could really use some good photos of the stages. Seems like Wexler, et al would have something by now if they were significant.
I have to agree with pitboss that this is tantamount to the bazillion minor subvarieties that are a bit <ho hum> IMHO.
Then again, Papi is correct -- if there is demand, then...
Out of general interest sake, I'd like to see what these stages look like. If anyone has pics, please post or PM me.

I agree with you that if we are to be able to see these variation (which I can not) we need to see what they are talking about . What are they using for magnification for these minor differences.

I've never submitted a stage, although I do have a few that are not yet listed. I believe John provides images to the submitter upon attribution. So, he must have all these photos in a file.
It may be worth inquiring, he might sell them as an E-Book of images.

I went back and checked, and in fact back in Jan. of 2010; John told me in an email
"The 2009 Lincoln cent doubled die listings that you see on my website are not a permanent fixture there. I plan on releasing all of that information in expanded form with pics of the key die markers for each stage in book form. When I do that, the information on the website will disappear. "
I applaud John for his tireless work. I'm sure the operating costs of maintaining his web-site are more than the measly $3 he charges for attributions.
He gave no time table for his book, but it is an exciting publication to look forward to.
<< <i>Does anyone have a picture of what the WDDR 001 type "A" die markers are? >>
I don't, but it sounds like they'd be easy to see.
"Obverse Stage A: EDS. A light die scratch runs SSE from the front underside of the beard.

Remember, this is an EDS (Early Die State); yours may not have these markers. If it doesn't, than yours is an earlier state than what's already known.
Thanks papi. I guess I will have to break out my microscope and have a look as I am getting curious as to which is which. . My dinoscope just does not do the trick.
I also have only catalogued my finds by the ddo or ddr number, not by die state. Since there's very little (collector/sales) interest in these, I'm not sure I really want to invest the time to review them at this time.
If collector interest changes, and the grading companies and price guides begin to recognize these, then I will re-consider....until then.....I'm sittin' on 'em.....
Thats what I have been doing but a customer wants a WDDR 001 type "A" so I am curious to see what is so special about it. I just took them all out of the safe and will look for one.
when is the new cherrypicker's guide due to be released? it will be nice to see them live and in color! so much derision over their importance.....finally some validation for us believers!

I just thought this thread should be brought back to life. I miss the banter between the yays and nays of these error cents. The talk recently has been so centered on the ASE 25th anniversary set (with good
reason of course) that I thought this thread would be a good distraction while we wait for the Mint to ship them. So, of those of you that collect these, are you still in the market for key date boxes? Has anyone
discovered any new varieties recently? I have come across one that hasn't been listed by Coneca or Wexler but haven't sent it to either for attribution. There is such a glut of identified errors already, just didn't
seem necessary to add another to this point. I'm waiting to see what these do once they are introduced to the general public through publications such as the Red Book and the Cherrypicker's Guide. My most
recent exploration was to open a box dated 4/23 to fish out five skeleton finger varieties....wddr 006/wddo 002...two of which had the early stage of an obverse die crack (very thin crack) mid-jacket to rim. I am
just tucking these away for the most part, but selling a few "sets of errors" on the bay to test the collector waters. So far the "waters" are luke warm. I am one of the optimists though, as I said before, once the
general public catches on to these things should get better (higher values) than they are currently. Well, that's my report for now....what do you have to add, pro or con? Aren't you glad we can talk about these
again instead of having to drone on about what the future values of an ASE anniversary set will be and how PCGS will assign labels for the individual coins? C'mon Lincoln cent / error collectors, let's take this

What "Hot Date and Time" of the LP2 do you have Mr. Murray? Did you order them directly from the mint? The LP1 series sealed boxes still have good value because of their lower mintage, but the LP2 series is
still the key if you have the right dates and times. It's smart to hold onto the entire series due to the fact that it will be the only year that 4 different designs of the Lincolns will be produced in the same year.
Akbeez, I know you've been championing these all along...great to see you still have that fire in you!

Yes , we bought direct from the mint via subscription. The Lp2's are dated 4 / 21 which i remember was speculated as being a key date , id need to recheck the time on them. Odd that i really like roll searching but ive not been tempted to open any of these.
I do not have any boxes I have not looked through but I did sell one of my 2 proof ddr oo1's for $499,95 though. I have not bought anything as I have enough already.

Ive only seen about 15 of these being sold. This is far and away a very rare stage. The die likely failed very soon after the revervse crack occured.
