<< <i>Where do you all get rolls of halves? The bank I go to around here only has a few rolls of halves in the cashiers drawers and if any large amount is wanted $500 or $1000 they just go down to the vault and grab a bag. When it comes time to bring them back you just bring the bag back and they pour them in the coin counter. >>
In my case it's a Chase branch not too far from home. I call the teller and let her know what I would like. She ordered them and gets them from a central repository of some sort (armored carrier perhaps). The following week she calls me back to come pick them up. This week I ordered the $1000 in halves plus 100 two dollar bills (for spending).
I've asked other tellers to call me whenever anyone brings in coins to the branch but so far no one has. A couple weeks ago, one of the tellers at the branch I return coins to told me that someone brought in $700 in Ikes. I would have loved looking thru and spending them, but they were all sent back to wherever unwanted & unloved coins go.
Found nothing in the silver area but numerous 2004-2008 coins. I did not expect to find those lower mintage coins that were not release in rolls. I also found a clad 2000 S which is proof but no it's not a PCGS 70 DCAM.
Now what to I do with them all?
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.

Drive some merchants crazy by spending them.
there is a branch of banks locally that has free lobby coin counting... i usually use their machines... typically, when i'm driving through town i'll bring my bag of halves and take in a few coffee cans to each branch... usually $300 or so... i'm in and out in a few minutes and don't make a scene... then hit the next branch on the way home and do the same thing...
i've never had anyone say anything to me about dumping all the halves in, but i've done $1000 in one shot and i feel kind of weird standing there w/ a 60lb bag of coins just dumping away then getting $1000 cash back... i found that doing alittle at a time is less obvious...
so one day, my wife dropped in to dump off a couple cans and I asked her if they collected her information... she said no (everytime I do it they ask for ID and they enter something into the computer)... so now she usually does it while we're out running errands... couple thousand dollars later and they've never asked for her ID... she just hands them the slip and they hand her the cash...
so.... yup it's a pain... i go through phases where I do alot of it then need a break... searching is fun as hell but getting rid of them can get tiresome...

<< <i>I ordered $3,000 in halves two weeks ago and when try came in last week, one box was short $50 and the bank wouldn't give me any until they resolved the short box with the Feds. Apparently, the boxes were not stamped as being inspected, I'm not sure what that means but I bet it means they were stuffed with silver. >>
Or the teller cut you off at the pass
