Why would I get blocked for this message?

<< <i>I am a collector and occasionally buy and never sell coins on ebay. If you left that note with positive feedback, it is highly likely that I would never read it. >>

Agreed, Thank you, that is helpful. I quit looking at FB too. way too many 100% sellers who don't deserve it - IMO of course!

<< <i>If I were you, I would let this issue die and move on. >>

Not sure why I should let this issue die though. Please explain. Where is the negative? Do dealers really make their business decisions based on message board posts and who they like by their posts? yeah, I guess they do.. and that my friend is a symptom of a bigger problem.

    You see?

Since I can't rely on feedback this is a way to find the good sellers. I want to be blocked by any seller who thinks I'm a PITA, especially if they can't see or comprehend the integrity and honesty in my posts. I don't want them to have my business. It's my way of thinning the weeds! image

<< <i>As a Collector, since this is COLLECTORS UNIVERSE what would you think if you read in a sellers feedback a positive comment that read:

"Seller blocks buyers for asking for additional pictures with out explanation"

I would think: why the hate for the word without? >>

arrrrrrrghhhh Excellent point!! that type of embellishment in my first post in this thread is what the concensus has said shut me down. I concede, my writing style stinks.

Wow, that's given me a headache worthy of 4 Advil and I've only read 1/4 of it at best. If a seller were to block me, yes, I'd probably ask why, then move on. And if I blocked someone and they kept after me, I'd be hitting delete without reading a multitude of long discourse. What a waste of that seller's time. It's a seller's prerogative to block as he feels is best for him/her, and there really is no explanation necessary.

He probably ended the auction because he received way too much publicity on it, or got a good offer. I hope the latter.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

I have asked for better photos from ebay sellers without incident, but its obvious why I ask if the photos are bad. Its just my opinion, but if you are looking for high end examples of the '09 VDB, I would stick with dealers and examine the coins in hand. I wouldn't take chances on ebay. There are plenty of reputable dealers that post here that would be a better source.

Another thing, why the obsession with this one anonymous seller? Why do you care why he blocked you? Does there have to be a rational reason?

Ha! Ha! I once asked a seller for better/larger pics and the scoundrel went & edited his listing with additional, better pics . . . Then the coin went for MOON money . . . Dammit boy ! ! ! image

OP, Instead of trying to build a set from e-Bay why don't you seek out a dealer/mentor that specializes in what you collect, tell them what you're looking for, & let them do some of the work for you? Maybe meet them at a show or even make a trip to their shop. Seems that this would, in the long run, be cheaper and much more condusive to what you are trying to accomplish than messing hit & miss with e-Bay. JMO . . . for what it's worth! image

My intentions are misunderstood - my original question was answered by those who posted their best guesses. Those answers mean a lot more than what ever that seller could find and use it as an excuse. I am not obsessed with this seller. I am obsessed with why in heavens earth would someone narrow down the pool of bidders in the first place. This was not the first block I have run into.

I have been reading nearly all the threads here for over a year. A reoccurring theme that has my interest was how many threads there are about blocking buyers. While I understand there are schemers. I come from a business that was a nut magnet within the industry. So, my background is heavy in customer service. There is a stereotype that I have formed in my mind by those so quick to block. I am trying to understand it, to understand where dealers are coming will help me understand and learn the art of the coin deal.

I should also add that I have been banned from the 3 Coin boards at one time or another. Yet I moderate on a sports board with 120k members median age of 25. I have never been banned from a MB before and I go back to the days of AOL 1.0 and mIRC with a dozen different MB from Surf Fishing to skiing to Hummers and off roading to Home Building to Fine Woodworking. Banning and blocking is very pervasive in this hobby and probably carries right over or comes from the bourse floor? who knows?

eBay is the only venue where I can select from dozens of new listings every night which is very conducive to accomplishing 3 examples at each grade. I have zillion of BINs, other auctions and results, PCGS price guide/coin facts, NGC, CDN at my disposal for making informed buys. What you don't get most of the time is quality pics!

It has nothing to do with finding superior examples, because I am not, the law of averages is working out quite nicely. I am in contact with several specialists. I am taking a shotgun approach to grabbing up as many as I can as quickly as I can, thats why eBay. Couple months ago I decided I wanted one of each grade in one year. While acquiring pieces for that set, it turned into more than a grading set. all illini420's fault - It is now a study set on many different levels of collecting. I am learning a lot very quickly. Stuff that you guys have likely taken decades to learn.

I think that those who have read this far need to understand that if you look down any thread here that the post counts are an indication that this is a core group who band together, even those with low post counts have been members for awhile. I don't see any new members here. How do you get credit if you don't have credit?

Last note: I have been to 2 shows. What a turn off! IMO i don't look like a buyer and I don't walk the walk nor talk the talk. I thought I was going to have to fend the sharks off since I was an easy mark - boy was I wrong. I was made to feel that at every table I was bothering them, probably the same kind of guys who block for asking for pics, who knows? the show was empty - maybe they were all grumpy from lack of sales. who knows?

If you come across, in person, anything like your "about me" on ebay, or your postings in this thread, then I can understand why the dealers wouldn't want to deal with you. Impressions are everything and not everyone just wants your wallet in spite of dealing with you.
I know that I, personally, have turned down quite a bit of money due to what would have meant dealing with folks I didn't care for (and I am not a dealer).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The ebay buyer pool is huge. Why take a chance on a buyer that you believe is going to be hard to please?

<< <i>I would block someone if they sent me a message that indicated they just might question the grade of a professional graded coin. Why take on the hassle of a return when there are buyers that will accept the grading opinion of professionals. Isn't that why pay grading fees? >>

So if a collector doesn't blindly accept the plastic grade, it is justifiable to block him or her? Do you always buy into the plastic grade without regards for the quality of the piece? I would assume not so your comment strikes me as hypocritical.
