It's no secret that double mint set cardboard holders would be most believable source for that kind of toning. But this example varies considerably from the normal spectrum of blue tones found on the great great majority of Phili coins from these sets. Out of several hundred 54-58' mint sets I've examined or owned, exactly one 57' and one 58' set that I can remember had some greens and organges and reds not unilike these. But in those cases it was only the side facing down in the boards that picked up those types of colors.
I dislike this particular one because:
1) Two sided matching toning is not believable
2) I don't like the way the colors sit
3) I don't like the lack of toning breaks over both sides, I've never seen this.
4) The colors are questionable to begin with and 1-3 seals it for me

I fully agree with Jeff here.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I've bought a few items on TT lately that I had seen in hand at Stack's lot viewing over the last 2+ years and TT's images don't even resemble the coins.

yassir'ee .... the beauty of a return policy. You've got a ton of experience and you'll know the minute you set eyes on it whether you like it or not
And I've stopped using TT because I only collect toned coins and they have just absolutely failed to get color right in their photos. I HATE saying this because TT is absolutely as customer service oriented as they come and they will bend over backwards to do what you ask, fulfill requests, improve photos - you name it ... but it doesn't make up for the photography issues on toned coins. And they are ABSOLUTELY suffering from this problem as evidenced by a severe drop in consignor confidence and drop off in toned submissions.

Exactly! If I don't like it, its going straight back to Teletrade, unless PCGS is willing to buy it back.

I had tagged this O.P coin for some serious bidding , and somehow let it slip through my fingers..missed it completely
I was struck by it's beauty and wanted to see it in hand ......but sometimes I worry if I return too many coins to T.T they will cut me off from bidding .........
as for getting PCGS to buy it back , I don't think you have enough time ( in your return window) to find out .....and , it's freshly graded and deemed market acceptable -so I would say "no soup 4 u "
It is eye opening to me that so many of you pegged it as A.T right from the git-go ........
and the O.P feller seems to be known by you fellers - but his real identity is not known to me
......if he indeed has a "ton" of experience , that isn't shinning thru to my eye's judging by several of the raw Franklins he posted pix of having just bought ........
my final comment to all would be to never ever even think about bidding on pretty Franklins I got my eye's on
.........and your just going to end up costing me more money to get them !!
but I returned a PCGS MS65 Franklin recently because it was tooled/whizzed !
On the reverse , bottom of the bell on the right side - obvious as he!! with a 10X glass and a halogen , but apparently not glaring enough to be caught by the graders .
It's in an older blue label holder and prolly was graded during the " 3 and 1/2 second per side -don't need no stinkin' magnifier " era ..........
it looks as though some corrosion was removed - and let me make clear, I have only seen mistakes such as this once every blue moon .
I plainly told T.T the problem with the coin and am hoping they take my suggestion and have the piece returned to PCGS .
If however , it gets cycled into an up coming auction - I will post the pix for all to see .
But I got to hope when such a coin is brought to their attention , they do the right thing

Going back to Teletrade or keeping the monstrosity are really your only two viable options.
Getting PCGS to buy it would land you a check for ~ $20-$30 because PCGS will value the coin at "current market level" regardless of what you actually paid for the coin.

I think the best action would be for TT to return it to the consignor. It would not be fair (or even legal?) for TT to return the coin to PCGS for annihilation. And I would be mondo-surprised if PCGS would cop to it being questionably toned. Unfortunately, they have adopted a less than proactive stance regarding AT coins.
