Nice report- it is always good to see what others are finding.

A couple things that stand out... the '30s Canada cents are very cool. I think the oldest I have found are from 1942. Others on these boards seem to have luck plucking Canada cents from the '20s and '30s. The 1960 Small Date is also pretty surprising. I have never found one of those. I also have never found a 1919-S.

    Nice job! image

Hopefully in your glee to find the wheats worth three cents each you did not miss any of the RARE wide AMs! image

Whenever I search cents I worry that the big tunas escape my attention while the 1958 wheaties get fawned over image

  • There should be alot more hitting the streets by now or soon..I took all the rolls i had (about 300 rolls) different dates from the 40's up to now and they were all uncirculated and i opened them up and put them in a bank bag for the teller to run them through the machine for deposit..I did try to sell them to dealers but most of them are crooks and don't want to pay sh*t for them so i figured i would just take them and let the public have fun with them..Who knows maybe a child may find one and get started in collecting coins.I am just tired of being ripped off by dealers so it's goodbye to the coin kick.

You have far more patience than I do. I went through a friend's five hundred small cents & will never do that again. I did find a 1908 S IHC which after bathing a month in virgin olive oil, I think is a high end VF. For some reason, an 1865 3 Cent Nickel in Fine was included in the mix.

Actually the point of searching is less about the wheats, errors etc and more about mining the rolls for pre-1982 bronze. In this large batch about 35% of the cents were bronze.

My eyes do hurt and I am not as good at picking up mintmarks, so then the cents go to my daughters to search - and they get paid for the finds. So there maybe a few more S-mints and maybe a couple of wheats in the search.

I like to report the finds to demonstrate that there still is interesting stuff out there, BTW I got a 1925 Canada cent earlier in the month - only 1M minted and a nice VF and looks pretty in my Whitman folder.

  • Cool finds, thanks for sharing. I've seriously been considering going to my bank and getting one of the bags of cents they pull from their coin counting machine in the lobby.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Interesting... I have that and more that has been accumulated over many, many years. One cold, dark, dreary winter day I will begin the project....many, many, many unsearched containers/rolls. Cheers, RickO

    Hello,

I wonder if the percentages hold up with the six rolls I looked through yesterday:

    63 pre-1982 copper cents [21% a bit lower than your 35%]

    1 1947-D wheatback [0.333% compared to your 0.888%]

1 1976 Canadian [0.33% compared to your 0.54% AND you got much better dates]

    Plus I didn't get any S-mint Memorials.

I do check for the DD's I know of off the top of my head, 1969, 1972, 1983, 1984 and 1995.

I don't check for Wide AM's. What dates are they?

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful I have a hobby I enjoy and can always learn something new at.
I still call my accumulation my collection!

Good ratio of copper/Zincons. My last check on about $20 worth was about 20% copper.
Seems like an easy way to mine copperimage
