Where is an "Official 1967 Topps Baseball" forum? Is this it?

    Ron,

Trying to upgrade each gradually to 9s without bidding crazy. Have made huge prgress on 65s with mid-pop commons going for $60-85 on average but having almost no success on the 67s where I am getting outbid by lots of different people.

    Capecards,

I assume you have very few 9s to obtain and are shooting at just the 10s but what pricing trends have you seen for 67s in low-pop 9s and psa 10s.

By the way, tremendous job over the past year. You are building a set that will soon be considered the best of the 60s Topps sets if you stay with it.

Thought the 1967 collectors might be interested in this advertisement I found in a 1967 baseball magazine:

    image

Just imagine, an entire set for $12.95, plus a free 1961 Golden Press set! Imagine if you had bought, say, 100 sets, and just held on to them until now.

    My how times have changed.

That advertisement hurts my heart. It's not so much the profit potential as the excitement I would get seeing 609 mint '67s arrive in the mail.

$12.95 was probably considered overpriced at the time. image

Are you refering to the old definition of "mint" or the new?
  • Options

I was referring to the definition of mint being right out of the packs.
  • Options
    BuccaneerBuccaneer Posts: 1,794 ✭✭
I did that once in the 70s (order a set through the mail). The cards were pretty much OC and dinged from being shipped in a 660-count box. But under the old definition, those qualified as mint.

I talked to the former owner of Wholesale Cards, Bruce Yeko, on the phone a few months ago. He was an accountant by trade who had the card business on the side. He was buying vending cases from Topps in the early 60's, yow! He lives in CT now, but all the good stuff is gone.

Was anyone ever identified here that is trading PSA 8 commons for PSA 8 commons?

Can someone fimilar with the 1967 Topps explain to me why #89 Felix Millan is included in the "Braves Key Card" registry?

I searched him out on the web and through everything I have read, he was a solid player for several years with the Brave's before having an off year and being traded to the Mets. So why is he included with the great Braves? Is it something to do with the card more than the player?

If I'm missing something obvious, forgive my ignorance.

Your assessment of Felix is about right: solid if not spectacular. There's nothing especially remarkable about that card, itself. I just picked up a PSA 8 for @$15.00

I'm not really sure who assembled that set. It's missing some people I would consider important Braves.

I just bought a White Sox team card, and I noticed that all the team stats listed are from the Indians. Does anyone know if the error was ever corrected?

Thanks, wonder why it's not listed as a UER in the guides.

My 1993 Beckett guide does list #573 White Sox Team card as "UER Indians team stats on back."

Incidentally, there are lots of other print errors listed in this guide that PSA does not yet recognize.

1993 was the last year I bought a Beckett guide book!

This is the best set off the 60's in my mind anyway. I started the set on the Registry back in 04 and I've had a great time with the chase.
I am always looking to upgrade my set.

Here's another question on "variations" -

What in the world is the difference between the "White Stripe" and "No White Stripe" on card #252?

(Does it have to do with a band not showing up for a concert?)

    Anyone have a pic/scan?

    Thanks!

You know, I would like to do this set myself at some point (once I get all my 1970s sets done of course). Do you think PSA 6 key cards (all HOFers/checklists) would be a good goal? Or do you think that's too low a grade? I imagine anything higher would be out of my price range.

the '67 set has become much more popular over the recent months, so don't expect to find too many bargains, there are too many lovers of the set in the game right now.....as a collector of cards from the set though, i'm seeing more quality material being made available than ever before, so i'm assuming that many folks who had been hanging on until the right time to sell feel that time is now.

Not actively. I still plan on finishing my Braves team set and maybe, at some point, taking this back up again. It's a great set and I love the cards I have but (like my '72 football set), my priorities aren't with it right now.
