Does this Buffalo make VF or is it just a nice Fine

Need some input. Does it make VF or is it just a nice F15 coin. Thanks, these always get me.

    I'd call it a "near miss" Fine-18. One thing I did not agree with in the old days was the "need" to have for ful horn for anything above Fine. You have to look at the overall condtion of the coin, not just that one spot.

    Still I think that this coin is a "near miss."
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I agree 100% with Bill, the coin looks just a tad better than a F-15 but not quite a 20....I would need a much closer image to see that DDR....

    If it were one of the dates that tended to be weakly struck (26-S, 25-D, etc.), a coin with that overall appearance would go VF. But 35-Ps don't usually have significant strike issues, so F-15, in my opinion.

    That coin was an F-15 40 years ago, but today it's a VF-20. It is not an F-15.
    There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

    This is a borderline coin between a fine-15 and a vf-20. My guees is that pcgs would call it a 20 cause the tip of the horn seems to be there although it is worn and flat.

    I agree.
    Clearly better than a F-12, but might be just short of VF-20. I wouldn't be surprised if it were certified with a VF-20 grade.

    The obverse looks VF to me,
    but the reverse looks fine +,
    the shoulder looks too flat, and not enough horn to go VF.
    but you never know, depends on how the graders feels that day.

    That does look a bit doubled.... This is a beautiful coin, the planchet is clean and so are the rims. It's amazing how this piece didn't pick up any dings or bangs along the way....Nice piece!

    If you want VF money for a Buff, you'd better see the full horn. I had this issue come up re a 24 S I owned. It had more detail than this coin, but because it didn't have a full horn, it didn't fetch VF $.

    Thanks for the input from everyone. I really was just hoping for a F15 as that's what will fit into my set. I'll be sending it off to get graded with a few others.
    I'm trying to put together a PCGS F15 set. Super hard finding the common dates, but quite easy finding the key and better dates already slabbed.

    24s 's often don't have a full horn all the way up the the XF range. I use the rim (by liberty & by the tail) to gauge the small differences between grades and that one is F15 all day. Cool coin BTW
