    Can't tell from your pics, for sure. But, it looks like an original
    heavily circulated $3. Not my series so can't say for sure it's
    real but it does have a real look. What's it weigh? Diameter?

    Cannot tell from the photo, but it is well-worn and slick, possibly ex-jewelry, fine details and not especially desirable.

    Of banal value and appearance in that low grade. You're better off getting a nice AU of that common date.

    Looks like an ex-jewelry coin but it's hard to tell from those pics.

    As a rule of thumb, I personally avoid raw classic gold on ebay.

    Pass.

    1. It's raw and therefore suspect. Don't assume the wear insures it is a genuine coin.

    2. Collectors of gold coins tend to be wealthy and don't want low grade examples of common dates such as the 1854.

    3. Probably cleaned or polished. May be an ex-jewelry piece.
    All glory is fleeting.

    Never, Never buy a raw gold coin off ebay. You can multiply that warning by 100 billion times when it comes to three dollar gold pieces. Counterfeit three dollar gold pieces were a plague when I started buying U.S. gold type coins back when I was in high school in 1965. The situation has not gotten any better.

    Just because it looks worn does not mean it is genuine. I once had a fake gold dollar that looked like an AG-3.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    hey the guy sells a lot of car parts and radio/phonograph stuff. Probably
    has no clue but he does have a 3 day money back return. If you don't like
    when you receive then just email him and send it back.

    I know.......image I read so many post here about why not to buy raw coins of ebay.

    I don't even collect $3 dollar coins - I love my gold dollars and eagles

    not buying raw gold on ebay.

    I didn't realize that $3 could be obtained that cheaply in any grade. Maybe if it was in a Genuine holder it's worth it?

    yes the price is good - I feel better now with a 3 days return, let see how it is in hand.
