What a rotten time to be an ASE collector!

Just looking at the US Mint site to see if they are going to make anything besides a bullion coin this year. Starting to seem doubtful.

What an interesting last few years it has been. The 2006 20th anniversary set with the beautiful Reverse Proof, 4 varieties in 2006, the 2008's with the Reverse of 2007 variety, the 1995w with the low population. Great set. Beautiful coin and great fun collecting. I have a totally complete set in proof and uncircs and now its just stagnant.

Wish they would introduce some kind of variety to spice things up a bit and the 25th anniversary will be here before you know it. Not sure there will be anything to put in it though.

Sorry your set is stagnant... But it's nice to see you actively posting on the forum again! image

The thing that amazes me about this “benign neglect” toward the American Silver Eagle is that the mint is abandoning a well established, cash cow market while they continue to push foolishness like the ugly presidential dollars and the superfluous American the beautiful quarter series. The State Quarter program was a big hit, but I’ve seen very little enthusiasm for these new quarters. In the mean time the mint runs the risk of permanently alienating a group of loyal customers who have bought ASEs year after year.

I guess that’s hallmark of a government or no-profit agency. They don’t feel obligated to serve cash paying customers.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

It is a shame... there are many ASE collectors and the coin is truly beautiful. Despite the 'modern naysayers', it has represented one of the few examples of real coin art in modern coinage. While not my main collecting area, I hope they do not abandon this series, and wish they would make up for the 'missing' year somehow. Cheers, RickO

Because the mint is not dependable for anything other than the regular bullion issues; I do not collect the proofs or varieties. Just the basic 1986-2010 set in a Dansco for me. A similar set of 25 coins in a Dansco sold for $600 last Sunday at the local coin show. Nice to see the value up a bit for completed sales.

Its sucks, my Dad buys Silver Eagle Proofs and Proof Sets for his grandkids every year. Now we're not sure what to do... not happy w/ the mint at all.

I sold off my NGC PF 70 Set (1995 W and 1994 PF 69s) this year after holding for 5 years. Just can't take the risk anymore that these will not develop milk spots later on. Had about 13K invested in them. I enjoyed the set though and will watch the 2010 Proofs if the mint decides to sell them. Could be an interesting year mintage wise since 09 and 10 are unique years in the entire history of the program, with the regular ASE Bullion selling at record breaking mintages.
