Made 2 more POP 1-Kennedys that is

Here are a couple of Kennedys that I resubmitted to PCGS. Both came back as POP 1 MS 66+ coins. Both should have been 67's. I got them from Richard Green whom called them both MS 67's. He should know, he was the TOP Kennedy expert at the time. VERY dissappointed. Even though 1/2 a point from the real grade, the difference id about $5000. Any opinions? Thanks. Ray. PS: Might be time for a presidential review. The 1965 only has a struck thru on the obverse below the bust. It has a small amout of break in the luster on the obverse as well, not bad, and, not normally admissable on PCGS coins for grade. Thanks for looking! Ray
PS: The 1964 as my icon came back as a 67. Was hoping for a 67+, but, I guess appropriate for coin. Will never grade higher due to Secure Plus system.

Why do people say it will never grade higher because of the Secure Plus system? I had an 1896 Barber half PF61 that was in a secure plus holder, that I cracked and sent in for a regular holder and it came back as a PF62.

I am sure there are others with the same examples.

You should be happy with the grade you recived...!!..I see a few scuffs and marks on the face of J.F.K. on the obverse and a terrible ding into the tail feathers on the reverse....!!!!....

Sorry but I just don't see them as 66+.
As noted by others scuff of obv of 65
and ding in tail feathers on 67.

After taking a longer look at your images
I believe them to both be business strike and not SMS issues.
Is this the case? Could that be why the 66+ then?
Just thinking out loud again.

Congrates Ray. Those early business strike coins have always been really hard to come buy in 66 and 67 most of the true top pop coins ended up in SMS holders.
It's too bad that there was never a die dianogistic to tell them apart.
Well with you making those and the low pop there might not be any more room left for any of us to get ours into that 15% club.

BTW Larry those would be listed as SP grades if they were SMS coins.

I made a 1966 PCGS MS67 a few years ago. Many thought it was a SMS coin. PCGS didn't. From my experience selling my my PCGS MS67 '66 a few years ago I think your $5,000 difference estimate is a bit high. Its still a very rare and expensive coin nonetheless. Just saying.

First: I meant the 1964 as my icon, not 67.
Second: Both the 65 and 67 ARE buisness strikes.
Third: The 1965 has NO missing material, scratches, dings, etc. You can only see some shiny spots on Kennedy's bust at a certain angle only.
Fourth: The 1967 DOES have the ding on the tail feather. It's 2 1/2 reeded edge marks in the tail feathers. If you look at PCGS' description of grading, it states that there must be only small marks in the fields. Minor hits in the bust, eagle, etc are allowed. I have some coins in 67 holders that look worse. AND, these coins are vMUCH better than many in other 67 holders.
Fifth: Jmj3esq: The $5000 difference is between these and the 67 grades for BOTH coins. Look at the price guide. If you knew of the few(if any) low POP Kennedy transactions made, you would see the prices are higher, sometimes much higher than the guide. This is NOT meant as a criticism, just info.

I forgot to add: I just got back this 3rd quarterly freebie. Anyone know how to clean off all this peaco*k color from the front and back from the coin? It came back as an MS 63 RB type 2. Whatever that is.

Ray, nice coins, maybe the premiums for the Plus grade will make more of a difference as time goes on. Nice coins regardless!

Simply love the luster on your 1967. NO way these two coins can be mistaken for SMS Kennedy halves.

I used to own the 1964's; 65 and 66 in PCGS MS67. Tough, tough coin to come across. To this day I regret selling the 1965. These Kennedy halves are a treat to behold in these lofty grades.

Re the 1965 1c Canada there are four different varieties.
Type 1 - pointed 5/small bead
Type 2 - blunt 5/small bead
Type 3 - blunt 5/large bead
Type 4 - pointed 5/large bead

Thanks for all the positives. YES, TOP POP early Kennedys are VERY hahrd to make. When was the last time a 67 for 65-71 was made? The price guide is not close. You can virtually name your price.

Yes, Richard Green was a great man. Had the #1 Washington set, sold it, the with Wondercoin's help, bought the #1 Kennedy set. Then he kept improving as time went on. We traded, he bought a few of mine, I bought many from him. Not many people knew, but, towards the end, he started another Washington set. He said it was just for fun. He played hard with his coins. Would like to see what he accumulated!

Thanks Frnklnlvr for the clarification on the Canadian cent. I took it from a mint set. I can't photgraph my coins for anything. The greens are the most beautiful I've ever seen on a penny in over 40 years. My dad had complete cent-dollar sets I sold here on the boards, but, didn't pay attention.

Thanks RickO for your input. Grading is subjective. They are in my collection and will remain there. Maybe another trip to PCGS?.....
