Picked up a 1937 British Specimen Set in the original case for $172.50 plus sales tax in New York

The set is pretty well toned with the copper coins fully brown but the other coins have acceptable toning. No hairlines and

In the original case which is in fair but working condition (open and closing) with one corner showing damage to the leatherette skin.

What is the current value of this set these days?

    Ballpark vaue is $300-$550, depending on the coins you received. IMO you got yourself a major steal.

    Do you mean the quality/grade of the coins?

    There are 15 coins in the set. The largest is the crown coin.

    $300 for an average set. Wybrit's upper range if the coins are fantastically, colorfully, toned.

    Average coins indeed at best. Nothing special.

    Some of the coins have pretty blue toning but others have darkish mottled toning on the side that stayed in contact with the black velvet.

    There were a few in the last DNW sale. They were nothing special and sold north of $300 each.

    I like to give premiums if the crown is cameo & unmarked/damaged. The next bonus the penny and the others not so important as long as not flawed too badly. I say 300 as well for average set.

    Those are great sets, and that's a great price.

    Of course, I got mine for eight bucks and swapped it for two 1877 Indian cents. image
