An Urgent Message To All Members... For Security Reasons Revise Your Profile Settings!

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
Do not change your email to a fake one or you will not be able to log back in and you may end up waiting a few days to get it fixed.
Please read my post before doing anything else.

Carol

Until yesterday I never clicked on the Eye Glasses image symbol that are attached to some members every single post.

I logged out and even then it's possible as a lurker to see all your personal information... First Name, Last Name, City, State, Email Address, etc.

Some of you may not even be aware of the settings selected when you first became a member.

It's foolish to have all this info posted as there are no security features on this forum.

Don't be a unnecessary target... Revise your Profile Settings Now and Drop Your Eye Glasses!

Don't enter your real full name or city. I've never had to worry about my email.

My brothers , sister, and a couple nieces are singing the National Anthem at the 11th session of this year's College World Series.
Some of you may hear us harmonize, and you can bet your bottom dollar, I won't be having my glasses on, but I may wear a loupe around my neck just for fun. image

Side note on this is if you use the PCGS regisrty your email is shown there unless you select to opt out of it.

Got rid of a lot of spam when I closed a few doors around here a couple of years ago.

And you can still have the eye glasses but not show everthing about yourself.

We don't drink coffee in Ukraine, only the tourists do. More like kvas, beer, vodka - we see if you can hold up to our drink!

I certainly like to know who I am conversing with. My glasses are active.

You may wish to modify your information, but at least leave your name there.

The established dealers on this board have already taken all necessary security measures.

This thread was posted as some members may not be fully aware as to what info they actually posted when they joined this forum.

Although there's no need to disable the feature entirely it should be reviewed as to what is actually being seen by the world wide web image

Thanks for the thanks, but I have no say in whther it is allowed to run or not. I think this thread was an excellent idea, however.

I'd like to chime in with my 2 cents.

If you decide to change your email to a fake one please understand that you cannot participate on the forums with a fake email.
When you change your email the system will change your password, email the new password to the new email address making you login again.
Once logged in, you can then change your password to something you can remember.

If you change it to a fake email you won't get the new password and you won't get to participate.

If you don't want your information visible you need to uncheck the visibility option on your profile.

    -----

    Great point, Carol!!

It is a simple enough fix to uncheck the email option in your
    profile.

I always have one email addy that I give out to companies,
and one that I give out to friends. The one for companies
I just go into to clean out the spam a couple of times a
month. That way, the one for friends stays clean.

So any company who wants my email address, gets it, but
if they want me to read all the spam, sorry.

It is too bad that the security options are not set up by default for a more secure situation.

Sure, PCGS needs a valid e-mail for participation here.
But that does not mean it needs to be broadcasted to everyone.
Too bad that option is not off by default; many folks will not think to look even with this warning thread.
