How common are Chopmarks on Seated Liberty Half dollars?

  Frank Rose estimated there to be 100 to 500 chopmarked seated halves. I just don't buy the coin you have listed as chopped, it looks like damage to me.
  
  I am just a novice and would love to here other more informed opinions on the subject coin.

  If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

  Anacs did NET grade this example as AU Details do to the damage.
  
  Chopmarks although historic IMHO should all be in Genuine Only holders.

  There are tons of "other series" with chops, basically all dollar-size silver coins from Spanish colonies or China's neighbors. Half dollar (4 real) size coins aren't unknown, though. This "332" looks more like graffiti or maybe a merchant counterstamp than regular Chinese/SE Asian authenticating chops. The location also seems very deliberately placed, unlike normal chops.

  The marks might be of eastern style, but their placement and distribution makes me think they were put there with intention other than what authentic chop marks were used for.

  awsome and cool. Though the whole concept of "authenticity" aforementioned seems to taint it.

  That is the strangest chop I have ever seen.... and, it is not in Rose's book (agreed, the book does not cover all chop marks). No doubt there is a story there, which we will likely never know. I would be hesitant to deem it an authentic chop. Cheers, RickO

  It is three separate chops of, from top to bottom, the Chinese characters for 3, 3 and 2.
