  I have been collecting for 35 years and now prefer raw coins. Mint state certified coins are not enjoyable to me anymore...I was never real good with fractions.

  Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free

  I didn't own a slabbed coin until 2006. A grading service has it's value, but I agree that holding a raw coin in your hand is the best way to appreciate it.

  Who doesn't love raw? Sadly, slabs and certified grades are sometimes important.

  I have purchased many slabbed coins over the years, but they are all raw now too. The ones I purchased raw are still that way.

  I think its a no brainer that everyone who collects a series or more should have a least 1 or a handful examples of each series in raw form.
