Wowzer, where have the moderators been for the last several weeks/months??

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
Isn't it great to look at beautiful coins?? Isn't it great to talk about coins in a general kind of way?? I guess you probably agree or else you wouldn't hang your hat here quite as much. What tends to drive me nuts is that nothing is ever done about the repeated spamming at the DISCUSSION forum by sellers trying to reach out to us for their own benefit. Happens all the time, happens with members I know and get along with, happens with members I don't get along with and with seeming strangers to the board as well as veterans.

I just wonder why it happens at all.

I'll go out on a limb here and be the unpopular poster by saying that much of the hoopla surrounding a recent collection's sale was pasted all over the place and really amounted to nothing but spam. Why wasn't that stuff deleted, why wasn't the member told to post it at the appropriate Registry or BST forums where stuff for sale is supposed to be posted?? Am I to presume it's OK for me to start a thread at this forum when I decide to sell something just to "talk" about it??

Now we get the follow up with grades and alluded to prices along with the expected cat-and-dog-fight being watched by all the rubber neckers like me!!image I'll admit I enjoyed reading some of the stuff and it was typical forum entertainment, people taking sides based on their feelings for the market and the participants-----nothing new really. I guess that while the rules change the game stays the same anyway. We're left wading throung the garbage to find the stuff that's worthwhile and it can be tough some days. Fortunately for me(and maybe for you) summer is around the corner and the PC will have to live without me less and less each warm day. There's golf, fishing, the cool woods around my house, all that yard work and gardening!!! Relief........................

But back to my original point, spam. I look at this way with a simple test; when a member(s) who doesn't post with any frequency or who has been absent for a few years suddenly appears and posts briefly, only to slip away again, there is generally an alterior motive. It isn't rocket science. For my own part a feel a bit pimped out by it all but I generally get over it quickly. Then there are the rules, or are there rules?? When I see them applied in such a willy-nilly fashion it makes me think about motives and wonder if anything will ever change. I'm grateful our Host makes this venue available and shall strive to wade my way through the politics. I hate politics, it's better left to politicians, they're better at it and can fool us with more regularity.

Have a nice day and don't shoot me, I'm just my own messenger.

I would post my grades, but everyone would be ROFL.

Maybe that's what we need a good joke or two..

No big deal to me. If I don't like a thread or its direction I ignore it. Life's to short to overanaylze a freakin coin board thread one doesn't like!!

thanks for helping me make my point, sort of. when things are transparent and require noone to "overanaylze" anything it should be easy for our trusted moderator(s) to remove them. also, as IGWT so aptly stated, many times(and particularly with certain members) the Grades Posted threads are a signal to everyone that coins are available

Excellent point. I recall a certain gentleman who left this board in a big way years ago, crapped on the way out (burned his bridges I thought), in anger swore he'd never return and then magically showed up here to pump
    and sell coins. Interesting.

Well, for what it's worth, when I do a give-away I try to throw in some education along the way. One of these days I'll hold only a few GSA coins versus the extensive collection I built when most dealers and collectors were looking elsewhere. But the GSA sale will always be a part of me and I'll always do what I can to give advice and help those who ask for it. I have profited along the way to be sure, but I've also paid a lot of dues, put in the hours, and done my homework......a labor of love as it's said.

I have no regrets and when I do finally wind down my collecting activities, I leave the hobby with no enemies, only pleasant memories and some good friends.

You have either directly or indirectly accused me of spam on more than one occasion in the past few months. Provide a single (as in just one) instance in which I have done that and I will apologize. On the other hand, if you are unable to do so - and I already know you wont be able to - stop taking baseless shots at me.

Feld, you're the one who won't let things die. i sent you a PM saying as much back on March 8th when my attempts to avoid you resulted in your continual posting of snide little remarks similar to the "alterior" one you made here. you just can't let things be, but when i swing back you get PO'd. tough luck, bucko.

to your point of me proving anything, the stuff you have a guilty conscience about is ancient, it all took place years ago when you worked for a West Coast firm and had the nasty habit of linking their website and coins that they were offering for sale in threads you'd start. a few of us saw through the ploy and you backed off while never directly admitting that you had done anything wrong. a savvy guy like you knew what he was doing, you're just too proud to admit it. so yeah, i have accused you in the past of spam and will continue to bring it up so long as you swing first and until you can man up and admit your guilt.

that's simple, right?? at least it should be for a man.
  • RYKRYK Posts: 35,800 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think that when you start was an OT mean-spirited thread, there is nowhere to go but downhill. Heck, when you start with a coin-related, good-natured thread, you often wind up in a bad place. image

PQPeace has over 5500 posts, so he does not appear to be an "ocassional poster", and I doubt all 5500 of his posts were spam.

Should we just ban dealers? It would be a shame if we did, because, like it or not, they do possess a lot of numismatic knowledge that we all benefit from.

I don't mind "grades in threads". Some collectors work hard to find certain coins for their sets and are just happy to let everyone know what they have been waiting for.

We have several people who monitor these boards. Even so it's difficult to read every post and things do slip through.

Since the beginning of the year, when I finally got so fed up that I posted the rules, I have removed dozens of threads and banned at least a couple dozen posters.

We are committed to making this a friendly and educational community service.
