So how many here are thinking the big one is going to be a big big let down??

A PQ grading system is going to be the HUGE announcement and I for one am going to be let down.

I think HRH said there would be three things, two very big we'd love and one just important. I'm hoping the "just important" one is the grade variable. I still have high hopes for the big one(s).

Let's see. N-- already has the star system. And C-- has "the bean."

So, if PCGS comes out with something similar, it's not exactly going to look they are the market leaders.

Some one else mentioned insurance in another thread. It would be phenominal if PCGS offered insurance policies on the coins that you owned. Yes, this would very likely make them a lot of money, and I would be willing to buy it from them as long as it was reasonable.

    Edited to add:

I really don't think that PCGS is going to modify the grading scale to any extent. That just would not be "from way out in left field".

There is no way the big one can live up to all the hype.

I am enjoying all the hoopla here on the forum. This is better than 4th of July fireworks, Christmas, Thanksgiving dinner and my birthday all rolled into one. I am not sure I even care anymore about the big one.. just having fun watching the show. Cheers, RickO
  • I think a lot of people are expecting some sort of out-of-this-world announcement for a hobby which, generally speaking, is very down-to-Earth.

Think big. Remember silly putty, the hula hoop, pogo sticks ? then came the Veg O Matic.

    We're talking "THE Big One".

If that is all it is, then the PCGS hype exceeded the "big one" at least ten-fold.

I am quite sure the big one will provide for a large transfer of funds from the pockets of collectors to the bottom line of PCGS. Rest assured you will have to pay to play.

    The BIG One?

Effective March 25, 2010, PCGS will begin printing on all coin holder labels an expanded barcode that takes advantage of all 22 digits (up from the current 16 digits). The expanded barcode will allow PCGS to introduce additional information that will provide improvements in identifying and tracking inventory.

The only time "The Big One" enters my mind is when I open the message boards on CU and see 1/2 of the threads
    talking about it.

Does someone want to start a thread on what brand of champagne they will pop open when "The Big One' is announced?

Oh wait.... RYK already started that thread...

Boy if this thread's title doesn't remind me of my adolescent years.

I feel this is nothing more than a publicity stunt and is going to be like seeing the "Man-Eating Chicken"

It's not, IMHO a publicity stunt and will be extremely positive.
It'll be good for PCGS and that will translate to being good for collectors and dealers and thus again, coming full circle, good for PCGS.

This will feed upon itself and a year from the 25th there will be anniversary threads wondering how the heck we got along without "the Big One".

If you think I'm kidding around, I'm not. See the look I'm on my face.

The announcement will be bigger than the both of us.

The big one will probably be good for PCGS, not good for me.

It will not change my life

It may or may not effect the way I collect in the future
