I just had a question from an ebay customer....and I don't know the answer..

He asked why his bid of 30.00 did not win... the winning bidder also bid 30.00...below is a cut/paste of the result, the dates and times look screwy to meimage

The top bidder won per ebay....

Bidders:8Bids:10Time Ended:Mar-04-10 17:22:01 PSTDuration:5 days

US $30.00 Mar-03-10 21:12:40 PST 95129

U S $30.00 Mar-04-10 16:24:35 PST 01590

Looks as though the first person to bid $30.00 got it.

Looks like their bid of $30 was on March 3rd at 9:40pm while the 2nd bidder was $30 on March 4th at 4:24pm.
So, the earlier bidder of the same amount gets it (which is why I usually put $x.07 or something into my bid...less likely for a tie)

Why would ebay allow a duplicate bid ..I thought it had to be higher?

Edited to add... Maybe the winner sniped it?

    Because both were proxy bids?

Correct. The first guy bid $30 but the auction sat at something less, lets say $20. The second guy sees it at $20, bids $30, not knowing that the first guy had actually bid that first. If the second guy had bid $30.01 he would have won it. He would not have needed a full bid increment.

Is the inquiring party the latter bidder chronologically at $30? If so, does their eBay ID happen to contain the term NOOB in it? image

I am not sure i buy the snipe idea. I can see 1 snipe bid being accepted and the later snipe bid would be rejected a few seconds later.

I have lost many an auction with a snipe bid higher than the final selling price because my snipe bid was not a full bid increment higher.

Sometimes the auctions end in .68 and some end in .99 and some end in .95. To confusing. The last 2 ebay wins i had were for EXACTLY what my snipe bid was. 1 coin was 168.68 and the other was 76.28. I do not see how that happened either

Jerry has provided some important bidding info here. Ebay buyers pay close attention.
