AFLfan's new acquisitions - Abner Haynes and others!!!

I figured that I would begin a thread with my quest to complete my autographed AFL sets, and various other AFL-related acquisitions. As a manner of explanation, the 1961 Fleer, 1961, 1968 and 1969 Topps sets contain cards of both AFL and NFL players. In these sets I am collecting only the autographed AFL cards, and not bothering with the NFL cards. In the 1970 set I am only collecting autographed rookie cards of guys that played in the AFL. As an example. Dick Post, a rookie in 1967, did not have a card until 1970. At the moment, I am at the following percentages in the completion of my signed sets:
1960 Fleer - 58/132 cards signed - 44%
1961 Fleer - 68/87 cards signed - 78%
1962 Fleer - 76/88 cards signed - 86%
1963 Fleer - 81/89 cards signed (including NNO checklist) - 91%
1961 Topps - 55/66 cards signed - 83%
1964 Topps - 154/176 cards signed - 87.5%
1965 Topps - 147/176 cards signed - 83.5%
1966 Topps - 112/132 cards signed - 85%
1967 Topps - 115/132 cards signed - 87%
1968 Topps - 76/79 cards signed - 96%
1969 Topps - 73/75* cards signed - 97%
1970 Topps - 34/43 cards signed - 79%
* Frank Buncom died on September 21, 1969. His 1969 Topps cards is a second series card. Until I can determine the exact date of release of Topps second series football cards in 1969, I will consider this card to be impossible to have signed.
Here are my most recent TTM successes that came in on Saturday. Signatures cost a $10/card donation fee. I'm very pleased to have these back!

Did you send the Antwine cards out yet?

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I'm not sure how good Wahoo was TTM or at wrestling events. I know of two other collectors that have this card signed, and I am sure there were many more over the years. Sorry I can't give more input than that. Thrilled to have it, though!

But my greatest additions of some time came on Friday. I am friendly with several Chargers of the AFL days, adn they know that I collect. So Paul Lowe called me up and I went to visit with him. For various reasons he said that he wanted to offer me the following two trophies from his playing days. The first is his 1960 team rushing leader trophy from the one year that the Chargers were in Los Angeles. The second is an award that he was given by the Pro Football Hall of Fame for being named to the All-Time All-AFL team. We agreed upon a price, and I am thrilled to now have these in my collection!

Doug - Still keeping my fingers crossed on Antwine. How long did he take to reply to you?
<< <i>Hey Doug. I sent out my request on January 19. I sent to him a year-and-a-half ago, but got no response/return. So your may have gone by the wayside as well. Still have my fingers crossed for Antwine! >>
Todd ... received mine back in 17 days ... Hopefully he still has yours and signs it!

I've enjoyed viewing your collection. Growing up in the Bay Area, I'm a fan of the old AFL too. Here's something I picked up many years ago.
<< <i>Thanks! I have collected stuff for 30 years, but I have enjoyed nothing more than my autographed AFL sets. Speaking of which, I got three more cards in the mail today!
Todd ... nice additions. That poor guy didn't get a last name from his momma and poppa? LOL

Very nice piece! As an AFL fan, I am one of the few Chargers fans who also appreciates the Raiders. Al Davis may be on the decline, but he had a tremendous impact on the game!

<< <i>Do you need any cards signed by Bill Cannon, Paul Lowe or Abner Haynes? If so, they are all signing at a show next month for under $20 per auto.
Rgs,
Greg M. >>
Yep, I'm already clued in on that one. I have all of the Paul Lowe's that I could possibly use and more, but I am excited about Abner Haynes and Billy Cannon. Those guys are huge for me! Fred "the Hammer" Williamson is doing a signing in LA that same weekend. I will send up his 65 Topps to that. I will get Haynes on 64, 65 & 66 Topps, and Cannon on 64, 65 & 66 Topps as well.
<< <i>Amazing stuff!!! I could use Lowe on a '62F, where's the show?
Jeff >>
Jeff,
Here is a link to the show. They take mail order...but charge an add'l $10 per auto. I'm working on having someone get 10 to 12 cards signed for me for $5 per auto. If you're interested, I could add your cards to my order (assuming it works out).
