Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Got my Billy Shaw's back today after about 6 weeks. He also wrote a nice note back offering to help me with my signed AFL cards. I could use his help with a few of his former teammates!
Todd Tobias - Grateful Collector - I focus on autographed American Football League sets, Fleer & Topps, 1960-1969, and lacrosse cards.
Thanks! I have all of his Fleer & Topps cards signed now. I was looking at my notes, and the only Hall of Famers that I still need are four Joe Namath, two Buck Buchanon, 1969 Bob Griese (already in the mail), 1970 Elvin Bethea and 1970 OJ Simpson. The I will have all of the Hall of Famers cards from the AFL sets autographed.

That's really great. I just bought a raw lot of 1965 Topps fb (49 cards) that I'm sending out to be signed TTM. I sent the first batch of 10 out on Thursday...I can't wait to get them signed!

Collecting vintage auto'd fb cards and Dan Marino cards!!
I love the 1965s too. I think that I actually have a pretty good shot of eventually coming within two or three of completing that set at some point. There may be a card or two that escapes me, but I am getting close. With the stuff that I am awaiting and the upcoming Haynes & Cannon signing, I will be soon adding seven more signed cards to my set. That will leave me with only four more players that are still living that I need to get - Pete Gogolak, Odell Barry, Sid Blanks and Joe Namath. I have written twice to Barry, and once to Gogolak with no luck. I just sent to Blanks yesterday with money, so we'll see on that one. I have the Namath card, just waiting for him to do a signing.

From a trade with another collecting buddy, a 1966 Topps Jerry Mays
A 1966 Topps Joe Namath that came to me via a board member. I am thrilled to have this card!!!
And lastly, an original 1964 San Diego Chargers team issued Ernie Ladd photo, with a vintage Ladd signature. The background shows the desolate Rough Acres Ranch, where the Chargers held their training camp in 1963. A nice ebay pickup for $20. All in all, three great additions to my AFL collections!!!

My Namath was RTS and my Gogolak has been outstanding for quite a while!

I've been waiting for Namath to do a signing for a while also. I had a GLA signed at the National 2 years ago....however I don't think he has signed publicly since.
I'm surprised there has been only one TTM attempt for Odell Barry. I just sent off 41 TTM requests for 1965 Topps cards and there were 3 or 4 where I was the first person on SCN to send a request to that particular player.
It's amazing how many of the older football players are practically ignored by autograph collectors.

Yes, Namath is the biggie for me. I need him on 4 different cards (1965, 1967, 1968 & another for my AFL All-Time Team collection), but he just seems to have melted into the woodwork recently. Not complaining too much though, because that is going to a pricey signing whenever he surfaces...
The 1965s are a fantastic set. If I could only finish one set in my life, I would choose that one. Just an AFL classic as far as I am concerned. I still need the following:
BOB DEE - Deceased - 4/18/1979 PETE GOGOLAK ODELL BARRY ABNER HAYNES - Will get him at a signing in April JIM PERKINS - Deceased - 7/24/1992 SID BLANKS - Just sent to him with $, so I have my fingers crossed... WILLARD DEWVEALL - Deceased - 11/20/2006 DON FLOYD - Deceased - 3/9/1980 BOBBY JANCIK - Deceased - 12/24/2005 JIM NORTON - Deceased - 6/12/2007 CHARLIE TOLAR - Deceased - 4/30/2003 CHECKLIST 1-88 MEL BRANCH - Deceased - 4/21/1992 - Just bought this one in an ebay auction and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail JOE NAMATH CLYDE WASHINGTON - Deceased - 12/29/1974 BILLY CANNON - Will get him at a signing in April BO ROBERSON - Deceased - 4/15/2001 - Just bought this one in an ebay auction and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail LARRY TODD - Deceased - 1/17/1990 - Just bought this one in an ebay auction and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail FRED WILLIAMSON - Will get him at a signing in April J.R. WILLIAMSON - Just bought this one in an ebay auction and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail ERNIE LADD - Deceased - 3/10/2007
So after those above clear, I will be at a definite 162/176 signed, and possibly 163/176 with only four more cards to be signed by living players. I have communicated with a collector on SCN about Odell Barry, and he said Barry was really nice, at all Broncos Alumni functions, and signed for him quickly TTM. But I am 0-2 with him myself. I am 0-1 with Gogolak. I still need to buy the 1-88 checklist and figure out who to have sign that one, and lastly is the Namath. But with the exception of Bob Dee, Don Floyd and Clyde Washington, the rest died rather recently, and should not be too difficult to find. But who really knows?

It's been a while since I updated this post. I got some great stuff back today, Haynes and Cannon from a paid signing, and Griese TTM. Also got the Wilson back TTM last week...
