What are these going for lately per coin? Anyone know what they are worth based on silver?

These coins were in standard circulation until silver was removed from all coinage in 1965 and 1970 (40% silver half-dollars).     Coinflation will give you the melt value, but because of the low percentage silver content they are not wanted by many people, and thus sell for well below melt.

    There's a bag of 2000 in my local shop collecting dust that have not been able to sell for months at spot.

    The last I heard about 4.25x face value was the most you could get for them.
    When in doubt, don't.

    if you can dump the 40% and get some 90% you should do it! 40% is hard to sell.

    I keep the nice ones and bring a few duds to a coin show. They sell quickly for $2 each.

    Most recent closed eBay auction indicates.....$50 - $54 per roll, ( about 5 x face) but the seller offered free s/h............ the non free s/h....about $45 per roll
