Since the Mint...

HAS to know about the issues concerning the spotting of alot of their coinage, why hasnt anything been done about it?

Also, has there been any other time in the history of our nations coinage, where an issue of spotting such as this has happened, in such numbers and across so many designs and issues, and over such a lengthy period of time?

If you are referring to the milk spot problems, the US Mint is not alone with that issue along with Copper bleeding in 90%+ Gold coins. No one has found the perfect solution to eliminate those problems. Perhaps you can.

Nope. Im just discussing issues with modern coinage. Isnt that the point of this place?

Not just the milk spotting of ASE's and the copper issues with AGE's, but proof coinage in general and the zincolns... If they know theres an issue, and theres been points in the history of the mint where these issues were not present, why are they not doing something to fix the issue?

Am I out of line for asking, since buying these very coins directly concerns us as collectors?

Collectors are a side line enterprise for the mint.
And do people really care if there are spots on those pennies they just throw in the dish on the check out counter.

The thing is that the mint is not in the business (nor should it be) of creating collectables. It creates coinage for general commerce. Looks aren't a priority--utility is. It admittedly also sells bullion, but to the mint bullion coins are just exactly that--bullion. It is only collectors who care about the quality of said bullion.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

    Then what exactly are proofs?

Proofs are made for the collector market, as are annual coin sets and other sundry items. While this is not their main business, it does provide some income. Cheers, RickO

So shouldnt this be a concern then in that regard?

Also, since this happens to raw coins along with graded slabbed pieces, it shows this is a mint issue and not anyone elses concern.

Have you written your congressperson OR the mint on this?
If it is a problem you are concerned about, those places would seem to be better to contact than a message board......just sayin'.....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I hope you're kidding; almost everything on the Mint's website is sold as a collectible.

.....years ago the spotting and such wasn't an issue like today because TODAY there are too many employees in the

workplace that just don't care about the product they produce! pride today is NOT the same as yeasteryear! even in

    our mints.
