My wife told me she was talking with a coworker from across the hall. The lady told my wife that her father recently sold a buch of silver dollars (6 months ago) for $10 each. My wife told here that I would pay more (thank goodness) and also learned that he had a "bunch" of coins in Alka Seltzer bottles that have been there since they were put up....
Hopefully.
Hopefully.

<< <i>Very interesting and sounds promising. What was the inside neck diameter on an Alka Seltzer bottle? >>
I don't know yet but hope to find out. I think I'll send my card to work with her tomorow.
I'm paying a minimum of 16 for dollars, hopefully that will at least get me a chance to see what's left.

Edited to add:
Back then we would put coins in anything that would hold them and protect them. The possibity of chemical reactions to the coins, well we didn't even think about it.
Good luck and update us if you find anything of interest.
<< <i>I don't remember Alka Seltzer, but I have seen old commercials of them being dropped into a glass of water and the size looked to be about a like a quarter or less. That is why I asked. >>
Wow...!!!...I really feel for you....us old timers know Speedy real well....!!!!.....

<< <i>Make sure you warn her not to clean those coins. Non-collectors think that the coins will be more desirable when they've been shined up. >>
Boy, you sure got that one right....

<< <i>What would the chemical makeup of alka selzer do to silver or copper? >>
I wondered the same thing yesterday, and figure 'at worst', it would result in beautiful toning in hues of red, blue, orange and yellow on the silver, and thick, green, crusty, flaky toning on the copper.
