Which Morgan would you rather have?

First coin is an MS64 with nice color and rainbows, second coin is an MS66 with really clean surfaces and excellent luster. Both are common issues so the second coin is obviously worth a lot more, but which would you rather own as a collector?

Probably the 96-P, but they're both nice coins.

The 82. I find a lot of toned coins ugly and usually prefer the blast white ones.

    1882, definitely.
I'm not a fan of corrosion or tarnish or whatever you want to call it.

1896 is a much more interesting date from the historical perspective. That's the year William Jennings Bryan had his silver crusade presidential compaign. I know that's not what you want for an answer, but if you offered one of the two coins to me, that's the one I'd take.

As for eye appeal it's a toss up. The mark on Ms. Liberty's jaw bugs me on the 1896. The minor clatter on the cheek of the 1882-S would bug me if it's graded MS-65.

I would have liked a morgan with the obverse of the 2nd coin and the reverse of the 1st coin. A combo of that would have been awesome!

I'm a blast white guy, I would have chosen #2

The strike is sharper on the '82-S. That's a good reason to go with that.

Thanks for all the comments, it's interesting to hear what drives collectors' interests. I'm not a big Morgan collector but these two caught my eye so I had to get them graded and TrueViewed. I've got one or two more that will also be submitted and I'll share those pics when they come back.

That's normal for an 1882-S. If one of those comes poorly struck it's news.

The 1882-s has a cleaner face and very clean fields. This more
then compensates for the toning on the first coin and presents more
value for your dollar. The first coin looks like a 64, while
the second coin looks like a MS-66.

I like them both, but would go with the higher grade on a common date everytime. 1882 it is for me.

    I agree with Bear.

Generally I prefer nicely toned Morgans but that 82-S is so fresh and dazzling I'd snap that one up in a flash.

The 1896 looks attractive while original, but from a dealer's point of view the 1882-S would most likely be the one that would sell much faster.

The 1882-S would be my pick, but I see it as a 65 rather than a 66.

The 1882-S. I have never been a fan of toning, although I do like the circ-cam look of toned Barbers and CBH's.
But when it comes to silver, I pick blast white everytime. image
