I love when people complain that someone didn't take their offer. As if it is the seller's obligation to sell at the "going rate". If I took every offer for my cards at the going rate, I'd make a fraction of what I make on eBay. Patience is a virtue when you know what you are doing.

Where is my complaint? I simply shared my buying experience. Thought it was funny that I got the card I wanted at the price I wanted, and that seller still has his stagnant inventory. Please point out the part where I complained. I see reading comprehension isnt your strong suit.
I see no "snooty banter" other than you being a tool for asking him to reconsider your offer. Has anybody ever sold anything to anybody after the buyer told him he "should reconsider"? Is this what you are like in person?
You asked directly whether you should just move on and he answered your question directly by saying yes, you should in fact move on. Now you're whining about it like he did something wrong. I'd tell you to go take a flying leap for telling me what I should do with my cards and then block you from all my auctions. He was a lot nicer than I would've been.

Obviously it was lost on you that my end of the bantering was snooty, hence my title. Since things need to be spelled out for you, I never "whined" about anything. I just told a story here. If you can kindly show me where I have "whined" , i'd be most thankful. The problem is your reading comprehension is a little subpar. Start from the left and work your way to the right. If you really don't care that they turned down your offer, then why are you even sharing this "buying experience". Why even bring up the declined offer if it means so very little to you. Do you normally make threads expecting no one to respond?
You're like the kid at my grade school lunch table that thought he was funny and kept making jokes but nobody ever laughed and just wanted him to go away forever. Just go away. Seriously. Nobody likes you.
<< <i>I guess if quoting actual sales figures and offering to negotiate a price is being a d*ck, then every single actuary, every single real estate appraiser, and every single person who does not feel like overpaying is also a d*ck. Like I said, some sellers actually want sales....some dont. >>
I'm sorry... I'm an actuary and this sentence makes no sense... We price our products first based on current mortality, then use market trends + built in company profit + other assumptions to set our rates.
Companies DO NOT PRICE to be the lowest rates on the market, which is what you are basically saying all actuaries do.

Yeah, I'm not following that either. Actuaries don't 'negotiate prices' (at least so far as I know), they determine what the fair premium would be for a specific service. And real estate appraisers don't negotiate prices either. They, uh, appraise.
In any case, I vote for a moratorium on threads where the OP stamps their feet and screams because they don't get what they want from the Ebay marketplace. And I'm not singling out the OP here- there are way too many threads like this started every week. Newsflash- nobody, and I mean nobody, gives a flying fondue if you were overcharged $3 in shipping, or if a seller called you nasty names in an email, or if your offer was auto-declined.

Unless I posted that I bought a T206 Wagner - I couldn't get this many posts on a thread - even if I guaranteed everyone gets a date with "Popcorn girl!"
The question I have for Gecko is if there were others listed, why bother asking about the one that was overly priced? Was it an old flip you were hoping you could get bumped? Better appearance overall than the others? Higher feedback than other sellers? If all things were equal, just buy one at the price you want and that's that.
On the sellers side, why should anyone care what he wants to price his items at? If costs him a whopping .05 per month for it to sit in his Ebay store. Personally, I saw nothing out of line with either your email to him nor his reply. Prices may have dropped, the seller could be unaware and willing to lower his price. It's happened to me before when I had one left of an item that I had multiples listed. People asked if I'd take lower and I politely declined. Eventually the item sold at a price I was happier with.
I'll never understand why so many post that they'd block or neg someone over the slightest little thing. That's some customer service . . . Many are warranted, but some sure seem petty.
"Hello, I'm interested in card X. Seems the current market is $. Would you be willing to lower your price some?"
"NO!!" *BLOCKED*
Really? I like selling things at a profit so I can buy other things. I have lower a price before when I got that message and made a sale. Other times I just tell them I have too much into that item and with Ebay/PP fees, I need a higher amount. I counteroffer and make a sale. If a person is reasonable and polite, it goes a long way. Buyer and seller alike.
I have a large collection of Star Wars prop lightsabers. I paid $200.00 for one and after a few years I decided I did not need it in my collection so I listed it on ebay for $200.00. I seller asked if I would take $100.00 and I said no so he did not buy it. Then the unexpected happened....someone else came along and bought it. I really did not care if i sold it or not if I did for what I paid for it I was happy, if not I was going to back into my collection. I guess that makes me a jerk by some people's standards.

Collecting fake light sabers in no way makes you a jerk. It might make you something else, but not a jerk.
Maybe you shouldn't have worded your message to the seller the way you did. BTW, next time you offer a seller a price don't offer the average offer the recent high, that is what the seller is hoping to seller the card for. Jason
The ONLY way to win at card selling is to "buy low sell HIGH" and selling at the VCP average will not keep them in busineess. If they are smart they will wait for the right buyer to come along and pay ABOVE avg

Mike has a T206 Wagner and Boo actually has some interest in Star Wars? I have found in the past that guys who frequent bowling alleys in Ypsilanti AND who know more about economics than E F Hutton himself typically do NOT dabble in Star Wars.
So although I lament the fact that the OP accomplished his original goal of posting nonsense and getting a rise out of the forum, at least I learned 2 things I did not know.
P.S. Mike, I know you don't have a T206 Wagner (although you probably did have one but it got thrown out with the rest of your T206's when the 1914 Cracker Jacks came out).
I can't believe I read this entire thread. Boo and Lee put it perfectly but too bad their observations will be completely ignored by the DB.. I mean OP.
