Edited to add:He threw a pick on his last play with the Jets also. So it's actually three, but two giant ones!

<< <i>So if he retires for good now, it will basically be the same way he went out with the Pack... throwing a key late interception like he did against the Giants in the 2007 NFC Championship. I am sure it wasn't a total loss for Favre though, he got to pad some stats and grab a few more records. Personally, I wish he had stayed retired and not traded his legacy for some more short-lived glory.

The guy was two plays away from the Super Bowl... way to take it away from him in some lame attempt to smear him.
Talk about stealing defeat from the jaws of victory. Brett had at least 10 yards in front of him which would have made the field goal very makeable.

Three "10s" and one "9".
Guess the time is as good as any to put 'em up on DA BAY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>the bad decesion was minnesota just sitting on the ball, two timeouts, you don't settle for a 49-50 yard field goal. keep going down the field the saints weren't going to stop them. then it was 3rd and long because of the penalty, just plain stupid. >>
I agree 100%. An offense can keep attacking without being careless. So often you see coaches go into a shell when they have a chance to deliver a knockout blow.

The 12 men in the huddle penalty is what killed them. That took him out of FG range, and they probably would have run the ball on that play.
to be decided by a coin toss? I think that is lame sorry the whole season everything you worked for on a coin toss.
I say in overtime they NFL had no chance of turning over the reviews. Total lame effort by the NFL which is supposed
to be the model league. Now thats said how long till Baseball?

Agreed. Even on a bad leg I just knew he was going to run. Unreal.

I was commenting on the post I quoted, not making an observation that it's okay to lose the Championship Game.
everyone gets what they ask for dont they.
he said he came back to get to the sb. well the jets lost a conference championship today as well. i guess he could have just stayed their to get his shot.
oh yeah...so much for this team being so much better than the 1996 SB XXXI Champion Packers or the 1997 NFC Champion Packers.

I don't understand why some people seem to revel in his failures, though. The guy has kept his nose clean, never gotten arrested or beat up his wife or gf, plays the game hard and with a ton of energy and enthusiasm, and at 40-years-old he became the oldest player to start an NFC Championship game and still he gets ridiculed? I know he's done a lot of flip-flopping about retirement, but shouldn't it be his decision in the end anyway whether to retire or not? Both teams he left (Packers and Jets) had made a decision to move on without him, so why the bitterness? Just wondering...

<< <i>I grew up in MN and still live here. In 1987, right after they lost the NFC Championship game to the Redskins (Darrin Nelson failed to make what would have been a game-winning catch on 4th down in the final minute of the game), I made a decision that I was never going to get too emotionally invested in the Minnesota Vikings. I would still root for them, but I was never again going to get worked up about it. I was 16 years old.
That was a wise decision. >>

<< <i>Favre limped off the field at the end of the game and I'm thinking maybe he didn't trust himself enough to run for it on that 3rd down, though obviously he should have at least tried..

umm you are wrong. he retired from the Packers and the Jets. they didnt cut him. he asked the Packers to release him but they refused and then traded him instead. you dont think that chilly willy and bevell were tampering with him before the packers traded him?? why do you think he retired so fast from the Jets and then asked for his release a few weeks later. that was his way to get to the vikes to spite the Packers. oh well, as the saying goes...some times you get what you asked for but worse.

My buddy that was sitting next to me at the time is not ordinarily that big of a sports fan. I swear to God, if he had been carrying a gun he would have blown his head off after that play.

Yeah boy, we really got it worse... had a stellar season with a chance for the Superbowl. But we lost because the whole team made mistakes, not just Favre. He had a great season as did the Vikes.
Brett Favre is the NFL's All-Time leader in interceptions.
Nothing that happened in tonights game should surprise anyone!

He had a little help from Mr. Darrell Green.

The way I understood it, the Packers had decided to go ahead with Aaron Rodgers as their starter before Favre asked to come back from retirement. At that point, they weren't willing to take him back, so the drama unfolded from there which resulted in his trade to the Jets. The Jets really didn't want him back for this season, either, that's why they traded up to draft Mark Sanchez. Regardless, I think it's a player's choice to decide what team he plays for and I don't begrudge Favre one bit, though I know Packers fans on the whole feel jilted over that whole ordeal..
BTW, if you despise the guy so much why are you actively collecting like every Favre card and ticket stub known to man? LOL..

Colts slaughter the Saints in the SB by halftime. At least the Vikings would have made it interesting.
Hope Favre comes back next year , the NFL needs more players like him.

I used to be a fan of Favre and there are still some aspects about him that I admire. However, the last 4 years have really tarnished my perception of him. It all started when the Pack drafted Cal alum Aaron Rodgers and from what I read, Favre was not happy and did not do anything to help Rodgers in his transition to the NFL. I can understand that he didn't like some kid being drafted to take his job but don't act like a spoiled brat.
Then he puts us though this annual soap opera where he strings the Pack, Jets and Vikings along on whether or not he is going to play. Who can stand the tear filled press conferences announcing his retirement(s), followed just a couple months later by an annoucement that he wants to play again?
While I understand that he has a burning desire to play along with a love for the game, but he has really jerked around his former and current teammates with this act. How would you like to have been Rodgers, who patiently served his time as Favre's apprentice, was handed the job when Favre retired and after months of preparing to be the starter finds out the primadonna wants to un-retire? How about Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels who didn't know if they had a legit shot at starting for the Vikes this year?
Favre has done everything he can to make himself appear to be a self centered jerk so I can't help but laugh when he throws yet another pick to kill his team's Super Bowl dreams.
My hats off to him.
For example, the 3rd down play when they called the Saints for Roughing Farve (the guy was already tackling him! Even Aikman stated it shouldn't be called.) and they get the flag. Then later on, Brees throws the ball, and the vikes piledrive him to the ground, no call.
Vikes outplayed the Saints but didn't win..
(Note I am not a Saints or Vikes Fan, Steelers all the way)
