Orlando - Whats with the weather?!

So I planned a little vacation around my trip to the FUN show. I arrived in Orlando on Saturday morning and planned a little trip to seaworld on Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning and headed out to seaworld. I must say it's been very very cold so far and I really hope the weather gets warmer, they even opened all the rides late at seaworld due to the weather. I attended pre-fun on Monday and was very unimpressed, maybe 20 tables total and as usual dealers just doing alot of submitting/cracking and resubmitting. Anyway, I'm tired and wanted to vent. I'm off to bed. Post a red coin for the cold weather to keep this post coin related

When I landed at 5:30am on Tuesday morning it was 29 degrees with some wind. According to weather forecasts it isn't going to warm up much this week.

The pre-show is a typical dealer show with a similar atmosphere to an invitational show. For those people who are yearning to know how dealer get-togethers feel and look, now you know. These types of shows aren't always completely boring, you just need to get a foot in the doorway and do a few deals in the process, and they can be fufilling.

My ex took the kids to Florida for a week over Christmas Vacation. It was warmer here at home. The kids were happy to get back. --Jerry

I live 60 miles from Orlando. It's been cold, with a forcast of more cold, finishing off the weekend with COLD. Being from the midwest, I never turn down a stretch of crisp weather when we can get it. Quite unusual for us but not unheard of. Clearly not the best of timing for those attending the FUN show and wanting to escape the colder weather up north.

I was in NC over the holidays and it was definitely colder than any prior winter visits. Darn global warming. Cheers, RickO

Yes, this is some kind of record number of well below avg temps days down here. I've been out spraying my citrus trees and other sensitive plants every night to try and minimize freeze damage.

Ok so I apologize in advance. But I tried to do a google search and came up empty handed. I have figured by now that FUN is a coin show of some sort run by PCGS. But can anyone tell me exactly what FUN is. Thanks and sorry but this is how we learn right.

    WTCG,

I already knew what pre fun was image I stopped by a few dealers tables who I had appointments with and managed to buy one nice coin. I always go to the pre fun show for at least a couple of hours just incase someone has something I would like. Pre fun is a typical dealer show and usually boring. Today is dealer set up so I will be over at the convention center setting up and trying to fit in everything I need to do by 6:30 so I can meet up with fellow board member kryptonitecomics and complain to him about how horrible his home town weather is image

The FUN show is put on by the Florida United Numismatists. Some say that it is the biggest show of the year, its generally a must attend for any large dealer and collector that can make it. Pre-FUN is a very small dealer show that happens just before the FUN show. Generally speaking not much happens here.

I had to shovel a foot of snow before I left this morning and it is supposed to be -15 tonight. Just how cold is it in Florida again?

dustified1234567, you'll also see references like the following, all of which refer to coin shows. So when you see a post saying (for example) "I'm going to Baltimore" that means an upcoming coin show in Baltimore.

    Long Beach
CSNS or Central States (Central States Numismatic Society)
    Baltimore
    ANA (American Numismatic Association)

No need to apologize for asking a good question.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I went to the FUN show one time
It was a good show then and I believe also now!
I can't get away from the shop and that may be a blessing in itself!

If one does not under the coin economics well as a dealer I could be out a bit of money. As time goes on I will become better at this game (oh, I ment business) image

There will some good deals made and some mistakes also I hope every one on this board does well and enjoys the show and thank you PCGS for the support you give the show itself !

I'm sure it's been cold for Florida but we just got 24" of snow with blizzard conditions Christmas day, tonight the wind chill is gonna be 20-30 below zero so it could be worse down south. It's a good thing the FUN show isn't held in northern Minnesota.image

Just packed my bags for Frigid FUN. The contents of my bag look more like I'm going to NYC in late fall than Fla anytime. Based on the weather I also cancelled a fishing trip I had hoped to take image
