  • Wybrit:

Stunning as usual! Are these new Florins to your collection? The Pattern Proof of the Florin showcases why this is
probably the most beautiful coin ever designed. I just had a number of Florins Graded by PCGS and will post pictures later today!

    Molto Great Wybrit!

This just came in today for my Florin type set, 1914 in PCGS 64. It actually looks better in hand with a hint of pale green tone around the rims, very light toning overall.

  • I finally located a pretty nice one in England Bob.

Not as nice as yours though; interested in selling it?

Malcolm Bennett had several of these Crystal Palace award medals on his site (btinternet.com) all in nice shape.
You might get in touch and ask if he has any left.

  • Thanks folks.

I'm trying to contact Michael now...
  • Sorry, Malcom.

Couldn't locate him with the link but will check his Ebay.

    Thanks again.....
  • Looking hard for George 111 and George IV farthings, half pennies and pennies.

I need them in MS65 or better if possible; will consider MS 64 if the color is nice.

I have a few dates but need most of them if anyone has some to offer.

    regards and thanks
  • Sorry, that last post was mine.

An 1891 Penny in 66 RD, although only worth RB money. Never the less, the Vicki pennies are tough to find in 66.

    It's still here.........just AWOL for a week, I guess.

Wybrit must be having those bank bags of cherry red ha'pennies graded at PCGS now. Then there's his 20-piece hoard of '54 tanners, but he's prolly only letting them out once every 3-4 years. image

    image
  • Good to know it's alive and well; I'm a real guppy for farthings, ha'pennies and pennies right now image

This is the seller's image. I'm having a True View done since it's much more colorful.

Sitting with PCGS now. We'll see what happens.....

  • A couple of new arrivals for British coin Friday.

The 1st is an upgade for my Half Crown collection. I picked it up off of ebay where I seem to get most of my coins. It had a bit of a wipe at some time which I think was reflected in the price. I need to get it valued for my insurence so I'm hoping it will make at least EF.

    image

This second Eddie penny I picked up at Conex last weekend. It was misattributed so I did the right thing and offered the full asking price of £25 thinking I could put it out on ebay for about 4 time what I paided for it. When I got it home and hade a closer look it turned out to be a wide date identicaal to the example that sold on the Colin Cooke auction the week before for £400image

Beautiful neon colors! Quite a contrast from the more subdued color of many matte proofs.

The 1880/70 is the same coin used by Marsh for the illustration.
  • I'm trying hard for MS 65 George 111 and George IV farthings, half pennies and pennies but no luck in quite a while.

So here's an oldie but goodie.

    Sorry-it's come to this....image

Newp from the bay. A Freeman 7+G (282), merely R5.

Newp from the Denver Coin Expo, sold to me by a forum member. He has some other great eye candy, but I had to focus on my collecting area.

    Well...

I have no picture to share unfortunately... just a quick story.

I think everyone has certain coins that for whatever reason, they just seem to be elusive... whether it be another failed attempt at auction ... arriving at a dealer table to see the coin you have been looking for sold or just not seeing the coin in the desired condition. About a year ago, I finally bought an 1894 1d that was a low end EF and I was glad to get it as it is one of those dates I never seem to see. Other collectors I am sure see it- I just don't see it. I was satisfied thinking I would never see another one that I would like or would reach to acquire. Well, I managed to find one that is a fairly attractive mostly red, but Red/Brown unc-

That is the reverse, or 'back' as you call it. The obverse (or 'front' in non-numismatic speak) by convention is the side with the monarch's effigy. The date can be on either side.
  • Just because......

I like it..it was my first purchase of anything British back in the early 80's.....and it was my
first half way decent effort at coin/medal photography.

Dassier and I have only 3 but would like to have more provided I survive the Heritage
auction with enough to make the mortgage payment image

  • Great picks Ocho. I love the shilling, almost went overboard for it.

I'm betting that the half penny has some great color as well, when it's tllted against
good light and photographed, provided the reflection from the holder doesn't
    get in the way.

I hope you're pleased with your picks. I certainly would be.

  • Thanks Colornut. As I certainly stepped outside my area of collecting with these two coins, I am most definately pleased, with kudos going to Andy Lustig, who put up with my incessant phone calls DURING the auction and who also acted as my eyes. I guess that I can't stop here and will have to get serious about British coinage (it's not hard to see why).

I just realized that I made post #500 to this thread. How cool is that!
