Did your taste in coins change this year?
I don't mean did you change the series you collect, but did the grade or overall "look" that you find appealing change?
For me, a great deal more of my attention in 2009 was devoted to circulated coins instead of Mint State examples. As a result, my appreciation for original surfaces with even, medium gray-toned surfaces grew by leaps and bounds. Now I find myself more attracted to "circulation cameo" VF25 or 30s than to AU-anythings, and a circ. coin that has been dipped makes me gag.

When in doubt, don't.

So VF20 is the new XF45.
Still has to look leathery and original though.
I've been pleasing myself with political medalets and tokens that I find almost equally interesting for a lot less money, but the collector bug still bites to "finish that type collection!"

My records say I acquired 24 items for my standing collection this year, which is more than I would have guessed. I would have said, off the top of my head, fewer than half that. Looking over what these are, I think I did fairly well in insisting on only good looking coins with some particular extra bit of merit of one sort or another to recommend them. I guess the thing is, my window of tolerances keeps getting narrower.
So, if I ever finish my set, I'll eventually be wanting to "down-grade" most of them to get a matching set.

What do you collect? I'm sure there are a few forum members that would be willing to help you with your collecting goals.

I've been thinking of doing a set of Morgans in VF... for a lot of the dates it looks like a real challenge.
I had to sell my V-nickel collection, but started a US type set nd got to 80% complete.
I plan on concentrating on CBH's in 2010. I love them!

Yes it did! It went from 100% coins, 0% Baseball cards to 95% baseball cards, 5% coins.
