thats like Joe Smith
This scam has been going around for a long time, dealers, auctioneers, collectors have all been scammed by fake PSA slabs.
It's the first name that was used by the NOTORIOUS
Craig'sList Gang.
They have LOTS of names and LOTS of locations.
They work on EBAY and Craig'sList; prolly other venues, too.
They have been in biznez for more than 2-years.
They have been reported to the Feds MANY times; the Feds
are too busy to close the GANG down.
..................
They should be reported to:
ic3.gov
USPS Postal Inspectors
Local LEOs in the perp's area
Local LEOs in the vic's area
.........................
Too bad there is not a way to get folks to inquire on this
forum BEFORE they spend their money.
Here is just one of MANY threads about the gang.

- I would encourage all collectors to post a video of their collection - I have found it to be a very rewarding way to share my sports cards!!
Some such buyers eat the loss; some resell the cards to unsuspecting collectors.
Are these cards still in circulation?
Yes. See Craig's List, on any day.
How many of these bogus cards are out there?
MANY.
<< <i>My question is what happens to the cards after the buyer realizes they're bogus?

Hmmm... not a native English speaker, are you?
/////////////////////////
For clarity, there is ZERO proof - as far as I know - that the subject crooks
are ESL folks.
Folks can register on ALL of the selling venues under ANY name they choose.
............
Apparently, the OP was registered at N54 under a Hispanic name.
That name was allegedly spelled TWO different ways on the registration.

This is probably the most honest thing you have ever said.

Thanks for the info., but this is making me sick! How can anyone in the hobby ever spend their hard earned money on a high-end card if there's a chance it might be fake?? Have these cards been identified and taken out of circulation?
I agree that it's up to the people who make their living from the industry (i.e. Orlando) who have to make sure there is a stop to this.
Anyone ever read the book "Billionaires Vinegar?" It's about forgeries in the ultra high-end wine market back in the eighties...

Since there is NOTHING that PSA can "do" to solve the problem,
buyers need to perform reasonable due diligence before they
buy high-value items from strangers.
The OP, if I recall, claims "20-years experience" buying cards.
He also claimed to have met the seller in person.
NONE of the CL-fakes have been good enough to fool an experienced
person once the cards were examined in hand.
Thus, we might conclude:
The OP is a cohort of the crooks;
OR
He is just a TROLL that dislikes PSA.
///////////////////////////////////////
There is NO way for PSA to "stop" this.
Buyers need to act responsibly and look out for themselves.
Consumers can also make complaints to the LEOs about the
numerous frauds. If enough folks complain, maybe some
action will eventually be taken.
I look thru craigslist from time to time, how come we never have
any fake cards selling here,I have some free time right now that I
think I would enjoy meeting up with some scum-bag selling fake slabbed
cards, would be something to keep me busy since we cut grass every other week now.

Hmmm... I didn't realize that ONLY people that know all the ins and outs of the sportscard field should buy sportscards. Clearly PSA is partly at fault here for not using a slab that can't be tampered with or easily forged. How many of these cards are now in the personal collections of people that aren't "in the know". And you blame them??? What if someone buys one as a gift for their child and puts it away for them. It's not PSA's duty to protect people that are buying THEIR product??? They are buying a "PSA slabbed" card!

J.R. I would guess that with all the knowledge that is available on this board, the scammers might know to stay away....
OR
Since most were sold on ebay and craiglist, they might not have had the knowledge of various sports card message boards to try and sell the cards.
<<<<<<Thanks for the info., but this is making me sick! How can anyone in the hobby ever spend their hard earned money on a high-end card if there's a chance it might be fake??>>>>>>>>
How? How about buying from dealers that are in the business or people that you know?
Except for Msohn and maybe a few others many of the folks that got scammed were probably out trying to get a bargain.
Like this clown who came here touting the guys stuff, claimed he saw it in person, created threads here and at net 54 trying to peddle this guys crap.
IMO and it is only my opinion he possibly was told that if he got the guy some sales he would get a cut.
Now he comes here crying that his 'friend' got ripped off.
he either lied then or is lieing now. Or he lied both times lol
Steve
I'm sticking with scammer.
Yes, vintageclassics, Joe Orlando should do something about this. When the scammers are physically found, he should show up and give them the Inglourious Basterds treatment. And if that happens, lots of us would be happy to alibi him.
sportscardtheory - that's like blaming Coach or Louis Vuitton for people selling fakes of their handbags.

I don't see how. PSA can do something about it by creating slabs that can't be tampered with and can't be forged. Not the same in the least.

I don't see how. PSA can do something about it by creating slabs that can't be tampered with and can't be forged. Not the same in the least. You don't see this happening with BGS/BVG slabs.
"...Hmmm... I didn't realize that ONLY people that know all the ins and outs of the sportscard field should buy sportscards. /////////////////////////////////////
The mfg/vendor - PSA - has no duty to "protect" folks from
buying counterfeit/tampered slabs. They also do not have ANY means
to attempt to thus protect folks beyond those means already employed.
Just like the mfgs of designer-fashion items are NOT liable
when criminals sell counterfeits to the public.
With millions of slabs already in circulation, changing the slabs
now would have little/no impact. (Though I support such a change,
it would NOT reduce the current "risks." Crooks would just continue
to use the old slabs, while they figured out how to defeat the new slabs.)
PSA provides a MASSIVE "library" of info on safe-buying
habits, via this forum. Cheating the readers of this forum
is VERY hard to do.
Any item can be counterfeited. It's a matter for the LEOs
to tackle; if we want to "blame" somebody, we should
blame them.
