    Scored a 10 on a card that I almost didn't send in!
    I'm happy with the grades, but it does bug me that I didn't get any .5 grades on the 8s.
    I have no idea why they didn't grade the coaches card. It looked like a 9 to me, and I need one for my set.

    Surprised the Rose got and 8. It has the worst centering of all the card in that sub.

    Let me see if the scan is in my photobucket.....

    I found the Rusty Stuab raw scan. It came from a pack that I got from Chris (cwazzy) as part of my secret Santa gift. Thanks for the 9 Chris.
    image

    These scans are from a group rip last year. 6 cards from the 2 packs graded 8 or better.

    I know that this is a 1977 OPC thread, however, I have decided to post my results from my Group Sub II here only because they are OPC.

    That and there is no "1992 OPC Official Thread".

    Sorry guys, not trying to hijack your the 1977 OPC thread. I'm also posting my results from group sub I. Only the ones that are OPC

    GEM MINT 10 1983 O-PEE-CHEE 300 MIKE SCHMIDT Card US
    GEM MINT 10 1983 O-PEE-CHEE 364 GARY LUCAS Card US
    GEM MINT 10 1992 O-PEE-CHEE 245 JOHN SMOLTZ Card US
    GEM MINT 10 1992 O-PEE-CHEE 560 RICKEY HENDERSON Card US
    GEM MINT 10 1992 O-PEE-CHEE 620 GEORGE BRETT Card US

    My next sub will be all OPC. However, the results will not be anywhere as good as these. I'm hoping for a few 10s and a lot of 9s and some 8s.

    Wheres the best place for unopened OPC wax?

    Don't know what the boys at "Just Collect" have been smoking lately, but they just listed a '77 OPC Garry Templeton PSA 10 for a 7-day auction with a starting bid of $1,000!!! And it's not even a pop 1. At least they're offering free shipping though! I've picked up some high grade '70s and 'early '80s OPC's here and there over the past couple of years and the most I've paid for a single card has been $100 for a '73 PSA 10 Luis Aparicio (also a pop 2, but at least he's a HOF'er) and $85 for a '75 PSA 10 Bill Freehan (pop 2). Admittedly, I've gotten some good deals from "Just Collect," but this was just too much to let go without comment. I suppose that's the price the consignor is asking for it, but in my opinion they really should not be taking crazy consignments like that since it makes them look awfully bad.

    That card has been talked about before. Last time they listed it at $2000.00.
    Waste of money even listing it

    ? What does a box of 77, 78 and 79 OPC Baseball sell for these days?
  • Options
    fattymacsfattymacs Posts: 2,578 ✭✭✭
    Recent ebay:

    1978 $198.00 and $275.00

    1977 $509.00

    dunno how good the boxes were, but that's what I found.
  • Options
    Been tracking sales of these for a while now.

    1977 (seven boxes sold): Ave: $411.16;
    High: $509 (Dec. 2009); Low: $394 (Nov. 2006)
    Last two boxes of 1977 have averaged $475.

    1978 (14 boxes sold): Ave: $226.14;
    High: $355 (Feb. 2009); Low: 120.50 (Oct. 2006)
    Last two boxes of 1978 have averaged $260.

    1979 (12 boxes sold): Ave: $179.99;
    High: $275 (Dec. 2009); Low: $140 (June 2009)
    Last two boxes of 1979 have averaged $250.

    In three years, I have seen two cases of 1978s sell on ebay. Can't confirm if it's the same case, though.

    Hope that helps.

    I can attest that one of the 77 boxes was VERY nice, got it on a 2nd chance offer. Compared to the typical 2-3 cards that are completely unsalvageable, and 2-3 more badly miscut in 78 and 79, these didn't have the gum glued on issue, and even the wax stains on the top cards were minimal at best. Centering was more like a Topps issue than the usual OPC 65/35. I'm probably a culprit on some of those 78 and 79 boxes (definitely the latter), 78s I stopped after a 2nd horrid box. Not create competition for myself, but my experience with 79 boxes is just slightly below the quality of the 77 box that apparently orginated at baseball card exchange. Tampa Bay Cards boxes have been quality on every purchase so far, so if you feel the urge, I'd suggest them as a reputable seller. I'm done with ebay until I mail off roughly 2-3k OPC subs, otherwise they will never get subbed. I'll definitely give a heads up on any PSA10s that come back for 77, the Ryan RB might make it, 9 at worst. Keep me in mind if you get any PSA9 or 10s for 73, 76 or 79. Reached the halfway mark on 73 and 79 already without sending in my raw stuff.

    Bought a couple 1977 opc baseball sets. Typical centering on most cards but I did find a few goodies.

    Bonds I think will PSA 8. Last 8 on Ebay sold for over $80 (I think because of the hype here on the CU threads)
    However, this is the best centered card I have found on Bonds.

    The other card that is just as hard to find centered is the Ken Brett. I think this has a shot at a 9 (pop 0 in PSA 9, pop 1 in PSA 8)

    The Carter will probably get sent in and will 8 because of centering.
    The Ryan is nice except the damn crease! Not sure if it shows up in the scan

    No, cant see a crease on the Ryan.

    Good call on the Carter, centering is really nice on it. Do you already own a lot of Carter 8's? image
