A little help please

I have recently come across a seller, not on this site, that was and cont's to sell UNSEARCHED shotgun rolls of wheats. I ordered one and got it in and was pleasantly surprised to notice how CLEAN the brown paper roll of "25" pennies were. My question is this:
When did, whoever "they" is, stop making the rolls of pennies in 25 count rolls? And, how can I tell the approximate age of a brown paper wrap? I mean this thing was advertised as having 10's-30's in it and being unsearched. But the wrapper was remarkably in GREAT condition and still had a tremendous amount of rigidity to it. I'm just trying to research this a little am not trying to blame anyone especially the seller for anything. I just want to be a very conscientious shopper.
Thank you fellas!

The closest thing to an "unsearched" roll I have ever seen, were several rolls left in my grandfathers safe after he passed away. They had been in there since the early 60's, but he or my grandmother had rolled them. (Not bank rolled). But alas, even THOSE "unsearched" rolls were crap.

Still this whole “never searched” thing is a lot of bunk. Virtually every roll has been searched, and even if it hasn’t, better dates are better for a reason. The coins don’t show up very often, and even with an unsearched roll the chances of finding a “rare coin” are very low.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Edit to add: Some people are tricky. If they say it is "unsearched" they could just be implying it is unsearched by them, but whoever they bought them from could have picked them clean. Ask many questions when dealing with people selling rolls.

<< <i>There were definitely $.25 rolls of cents back in the late 50's early 60's. >>
Yes there were. And the coins in our pockets back then are what people pay big money for now.

<< <i>Hate to be overly simplistic, but imo, buying rolls advertised as "unsearched" on the Bay is Just Plain Stupid. >>
Depends on what you want - I'm pretty selective, but I'd say 30-50% of the rolls I've bought are probably searched. On the other hand, I get the cheap ones from the late 50s early 60s (typically $5 - 6 with shipping) because I'm more interested in collecting wrappers ... whether that is stupid or not is a separate issue, but I'm certainly not interested in buying rolls in order to make a killing on a key find.
That 1955 DD thread was interesting though - and tough to believe!

Searched for what? Clips? Broadstrikes? Doubled Dies? MS67 grades? PO1 Grades? RPM's? What?
Every roll I buy is for a specific purpose. That purpose could be searching for "recently" discovered varieties or it could simply be a roll of the dice. Chance if you will. Sometimes I've taken big chances that paid off well. Other times I've taken big chances that did not go so well but I've never entered into that chance with my eyes completely shut!
There are some interesting finds still yet to be discovered out there and they get reported constantly on these boards.
