Multifocal Contact lenses for coin viewing.

Being nearsighted, and 51, I currently need contacts for distant vision
and reading glasses to see the detail on coins,
and a loupe for excellent optics.

Anyone have any experience with multifocal lenses?

Do they give you good coin viewing abilities?

What brand do you use?

I use progressive lens in eyeglasses... got tired of the contact hassle .... It will take a few days to acclimate, but well worth the effort. Distance, reading whatever.. no problems... Cheers, RickO

I've never needed glasses for distance viewing, used bifocals for a while for reading starting at age 45 or so. Now I use progressives to allow for computer comfort and the up close vision seems almost like I'm using a low power glass. It has never been so clear. --Jerry

I wear monovision contacts - the dominate eye fitted for distance, weaker eye fitted for reading. Been wearing contacts this way for four years, eliminates need for reading glasses. About a two weak initial period of adjustment where the brain compensates for the change, then smooth viewing from then on.

At 51 myself, my vision is 25/20 and 20/20. While I don't wear contacts or glasses, I'm now occassionally suffering from plaque in one eye. 4 attacks in the last 4 months and just once so far after heart surgery. Several years would usually pass between attacks but with 4 so far this year I thought that I had a lot to be concerned about. But the Dr says it's only migraines, not to worry about it. Plaque that finds it's way to the eye through the arteries and vesels that lead to the eye, the blood which is carrying oxygen to the eye gets blocked and the surrounding tissues of the eye dies. (also plaque in brain=stroke) So someday, I can see myself in need of a black eye patch. The doctor was very entertaining, to say the least, with all the questions he had for me. "How old are you? How much do you weigh? Do you smoke? How much? How long? Oh, you don't have anything to worry about. You're only having migraines." Sounded like I was handed my death card after he figured that I wouldn't be around long enough to benefit from any treatments or medical care. Just unbelievable!
