Three Bags full

My bro-in-law's friend has "three suit cases full" of coins that I have been asked to look at today. They are from his departed dad. He wants to dispose of them. He needs the money. I am not expecting much -- probably generic silver. There really aren't any B&M shops around (San Fernando Valley, CA). I guess there is one on Ventura Blvd. There used to be one in Granada Hills and one in Burbank, not sure if they are still around. There is a Van Nuys show in February. What's a good suggestion for disposing of three suit cases full of generics?
Here's to it and to it again.
If you don't do it when you get to it,
You'll never get to it to do it again.

Just do an inventory first. Assess your coins as pure bullion play or coins with numismatic value.

Then I would try the BST here first.

As well as call the shops and asked if they are interested in the material before your make the trip. Also ask generic questions like how much under spot do you pay etc.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • That amount is the amount dealers will start traveling for. Even if it is all common date / heavily Cir keep track of the series as there is a big difference in a roll of walkers than say 90% Kennedys. Keep an exact count of the number of silver dollars and you can do weight figures(not count) for Lincolns and buffs. Once your ruff tally is complete call dealers up to a couple of hundred miles away who will most likely have some free time this weekend anyway due to the holiday and work out scope and expected price range baselines so no one's time is wasted. Set up you minamum take I.E. >13x face $14 silver dollars + series bumps 16x face for walkers ect. You can charge by the pound for buff and Lincolns. Call at least 3 dealers and go with the best attitude if not the best over the phone offer as the offer will change somewhat in person. Even though people here love a deal the BST might not be the best place for this kind of deal as you will have to do a lot of work/cost to ship.

Wow... that is a lot of coins. You will need to inventory them first, then research values. Doing any deal prior to this work would be very risky. Cheers, RickO

    Try A-Coin Exhange

They're on Ventura Blvd. (north side of the street),
one long block West of Reseda.

good advice. a single missed key date coin could cost you a lot in lost money.

then a month later we get a post here about the rip a dealer got and he will be flamed
for not inspecting each coin and explaining to the seller what they had.

personal responsibility is the key. get organized and get a red book. ask questions
and take pictures to help get assistance here.
