Interesting. Notice none of the design credits pre-date 2006.

These artists seem to have a lot more experience in advertising, creating logos and product design, so it is not surprising that this is reflected in the recent coin designs they produce.

The Artist Infusion Program is actively looking for new members Call for Applications.

If you don't like the designs, find someone whose designs you like and get them to apply ...

  • The designers have impressive art credentials. What I'd like to know is do any of them actually collect coins as hobby? That might be what is missing. They approach their work solely from an artistic point of view, without the historic numismatic prospective that a collector could provide.

    See what others are saying.

    I enjoyed this one:
"Oh, thank you, great and gracious mighty Mint for using valuable resources to produce those diversity platinums and untold numbers of Zachary Taylor coins and rolls. More than the stars in the sky or fishes in the sea oh, great and gracious mighty mint thank you."

Im not surprised there's no diversity on the team.....

What is that supposed to mean anyway?

Doesn't matter who it is to share the same warped view.

Additionally, the call for artists........huh.......I know a decent artist who tried to submit his works, etc and could not even get to ANYONE who would take his information.....and that's with all the numbers that are offered on the US Mint site AND calling his Congressman...!!!!!!!!!!

Comrade jmski, remember camp in old country.

    We go for long time.

    Make brain smart.

    Make tongue soft.

Is there this camp in America?

Yes, comrade. Now I see is camp for re-education! Is wonderful treatment for many days, even sometimes years. We learn how to be "nice" when terrorists - WHOOPS! I mean disenfranchised foreign agent - WHOOPS AGAIN! I mean unfortunate new immigrant without papers, decide to attack US Military - WHOOPS AGAIN and AGAIN - I mean to cause "unfortunate manmade casualties".

Comrade, it is difficult, many months of re-education for jmski. Don't worry, many others will qualify for this help - is new beeg government program for full employment!!!!

I get maybe new job soon. I get new university job teach remedial hamburger flip to former autoworker! He get new raise from SEIU, instead of old-fashioned AFL-CIO member. Congress give more money to union for extra free money!!! Is great!!!

I guess 6,000 - including many orders from plat "completists", plat proof collectors, those speculating on a low mintage, and those wanting a Platinum Eagle dated 2009 (this is the only one available).

Many of the earlier non-key $100 proof plats are selling for premiums comparable to (or higher than) the premium for the forthcoming 2009-W. This could also drive sales of the '09 higher.

Im glad the fractionals were spared this. I do think they will sell the 8,000 max mintage. There are no other platinum eagles to buy, bullion proof or unc in any denomination and the 8,000 mintage will encourage speculators.

Its guaranteed to be at least 4th in $100 proof set
    2009...4769
    2004...6007
    2005...6602
    2009...8000 or less
    2003...8246
    2007...8363

It likely will sell out in my opinion but it will never be great nor rare in set.

Time to go work on the back date fractionals. Raven has the right idea.
Thats what I am doing. Note 6 quarter proofs and all the quarter "w" issues are rarer than this $1700 coin.

I kind of of like the coin. The portraits are well done, and if the actual coin looks close to the mock-up I think it will be an attractive looking coin.

If anyone should feel slighted it should be Americans of other ethnicies (i.e. Hispanics, Hindus, Middle Eastern, etc.).

"As the United States has expanded across the continent, overcome internal conflict, and welcomed new states, the nation has found enduring strength in its people's diverse origins and perspectives. The United States remains perpetually united by a shared dedication to the ideals of liberty, justice, and equality. Through those shared ideals, each new generation has sustained the Constitution's promise of "a more perfect Union."
Interesting fact -The inspiration for this coin's design came from that well known libral politically coorect chief justice of our supreme court-John Roberts.

Yeah, it's too bad that the coin itself isn't inclusive of "people's diverse origins and perspectives". I'm pretty confident that Roberts doesn't favor the four faces on this coin design over any of the faces that weren't included, but the coin sure does.

I think it's interesting to see what the reactions are when liberal thinking is applied against a liberal concept. They sure don't like their own medicine.

I get the feeling that jmski52 is Basque, Bengali, or maybe Turkoman--three ethnic groups plainly missing from this design.

Do us a favor and tell us which minority ethnic group you are, jmski52. You're so upset that it's clear your ethnic group is excluded.

Sold out??? They don't go on sale until Dec. 3. Spot platinum is down 86 bucks right now at $1352 according to The Bullion Desk. We should see if that's a misprint or if it is real by this afternoon. If real, it will certainly bring down the initial price a notch or two...

Edit: The $1352 was a misprint. The Bullion Desk now shows Pt up $4 at $1442.

It's not the diversity message I have a problem with. It's the design.

If the message was the same, but the design better, and I mean completely different, I just might have ordered one.

It's just a bad design for a coin. It doesn't look like a coin. It looks like the cover of some kind of sappy greeting card.

GB, I thought it was an arguement over the issue of what's on that stupid-looking coin, but instead it seems to have turned into a personal attack. Typical liberal tactics for shutting down anyone who doesn't agree.
