Bizarre...I just don't get it... (AKA 3CN oblivion)

I have a blown up picture of a 3CN (1865 MS) obverse on the side of my cubicle window at work. It's been up for at least 6 months now. I don't think a single person has ever commented on it. C'mon with the scores of different people that walk by over all that time, not a single coin collector or someone that would recognize it and want to say "Hi" or anything?!

Okay, I know it's geeky, but if I saw anything similar on someone's cube, you bet I'd try to strike up a conversation!

Maybe I'll try something similar where I work...with a Pine Tree Shilling. image
  • You should ask a few of co-workers (ones that most likely do not know that you collect coins) what they think the subject is of your picture.
Probably more than one will guess something other than a coin.
Some of their responses may be interesting.

If you had chosen the reverse they may have taken it as a symbol of former incarceration.

If you did this with a more attractive coin design, I'm sure you'd get more feedback. Ie., try doing this with an image of a toned MS 65 Walker or an MS 65 RD IHC.

I have a copy of Early American Cents in my office and only one person ever commented on the book (an auditor that collected milk bottles from dairy farms) but these get stares all the time...

If you want instant recognition, use a more appropriate metal.

    Something flashier.

Such as. Um er. Uh. Hmm.... Stumped.

The primary assumption is that people pay attention to what is on your wall.

In my current office I have 5 pieces of art on the wall, ranging from "traditional" to "Picasso-like" in style and only rarely will people comment. I think it's odd as many academics have their degrees and awards pasted all over the walls so something "different" would seem worthy of a comment. Then again...maybe they just don't like my taste in art! image

Where I worked we did not have cubicles, but on the wall near me I had a chart of WWII Nose Bomber Art pictures...guys would come by, point and look, pic out their favorite and it would give them a nice and warm fuzzy feeling all over.

Pictures of most coins just don't have that ability.
