Green Label PCGS $10 Gold Liberties Off the the Pawn Shop?

One of my sister's co-workers showed up to work today with come coins that she plans to take to the pawn shop. My sis knows that I am interested in coins so she emailed me to ask if it was a better idea to offer them on Ebay. She enclosed a PDF scan of the coins. I was a little surprised and somewhat impressed when I opened the file and discovered that the coins are all $10 Liberties and all in PCGS "green label" holders. There is a 1901-S and two 1907's. They only grade MS61 but more than the not-so-lofty grade, I was impressed to see some coins with some ummph instead of the expected circulated 1921 Morgans or Walkers or dateless Standing Liberties. I would post the photo of the coins but I don't know how to copy the PDF file to create a JPG or other type of attachable image. Can someone explain to me how I can attach this image. Any idea on the value of these coins? I expect that Ebay or the BST would certainly garner better offers than the local pawn shop.

Pipestone Pete: In reply to your above request. Within Adobe Acrobat Reader use the camera (Snapshot) icon to draw a rectangle around the PDF photo, then cut-and-paste the image into a photo editor software application. The you should be able to save it as a JPG format file that you can post on the forum to show others -- if you wish.

Tell her to go to the pawn shop for an offer. And then add that you are almost 100% sure you'll be able to substantially best their offer.

Also, examine the coins closely if you can see them in-hand some time. They might be 62s or even 63s under today's standards. Regardless, they should sell for at least 62 money because they are in rattlers.

Don't. They'll probably tell her that they have to take the coins out of the holders so they can do test cuts on the edge to see if they are genuine.....

Unless they truly hideous, they will go for 62+ money on ebay, even if they are truly 61s by today's standards. Personnally I would not pay that, but there is a lot of "rattler fever" out there, especially for gold coins.

Ask for 61 money based on Heritage pricing on the BST. They will go quick and probably both parties will be very happy.

Might not have, More than likely they haven't. Those bring better then 61money, sight unseen in the market right now. We all know it. Common gold is about as hot as it gets, add rattlers into the mix and you have an easy sale at the right price .

The pawn shop offerer her $1800 for the three $10 Eagles. I offered her a little more than that and she accepted my offer. The coins arrived yesterday. Do you think that these would upgrade?

Those aren't rattlers. And nobody can tell if a coin is going to upgrade from MS61 to MS62 off an image - nor probably in hand either. lol

Nice coins, but it is way too difficult to predict if those would upgrade. I would leave them as is.

Those would have to upgrade to 63 in order to have much upside. I'd leave them in those holders

I agree. Leave them in the holders. They aren't likely going to up to a 63, and I would rather see them in an old holder, than a new blue one. You probably will get the same money out of them anyway.

Decent looking coins for 61s. One or two might have a chance to go to 62, but the cost/time/hassle are pretty much equal to the potential gains. In other words, keep them where they are and let someone else's imagination inspire them to take the chance.

Those look great. I prefer the green labels with gold. I'd keep them as is and as others noted there is not much upside to getting them upgraded. The green labels may give them some premium they might not otherwise have.

They look like nice 61's to me. Typical dealer would pay around 700 each for those, any less is a screw job. I would never count on any sort of premium for the holder. In fact, there was a period of time starting around 1999 or so that you could argue that both PCGS and NGC were overgrading all gold...

Agreed. I would have assumed a MAXIMUM offer of $1600 for the lot from a typical pawn shop.
