They appear to be shipping somewhat in order of when you placed your order. Mine is "In stock and reserved" and I ordered on Friday. Should have it early next week. They always take extra orders so that they can sell the ones that are cancelled due to violating the rules. And there are always a few credit card problems where the set doesnt sell.

sleave over the set, it looks like a dansco slip cover. than a white cardboard silp cover over that.

It is not in a sealed box unless you count the mint shipping box which naturally is sealed.

The price's yesterday were in the $130's.

Today they are in the $160's to $170's.

What is Sunday going to bring?

Just got my set today....a real beauty from the Mint!!!
    The packaging is wonderful.
One problem, the hotmelt glue did not hold the spine together as applied.
I can repair with no problem.
Someone else might be a bit peeved!!!

An addendum to my earlier post about the 2009 Mint Set I ordered along with my Lincoln Set.. since each member here can set their personal preferences to x number of postings per page, I figured folks who only see a small number of posts per page wouldn't see it if I Edited my previous post.. so I'll just do a new one..

I got back from a shopping trip and opened the 2009 Mint Set..

I know this is not a 2009 Mint Set thread.. (if there is one.. someone kindly point me to it..).. so please don't kick me (much).. but I also don't think I'm the only one who waited to order one or more, along with a Lincoln Set, so s/he'd only have to pay Postage once, even though they were shipped separately.. which is why I waited and added on the Mint Set to my Lincoln Set order.. merely to save $4.95 in Postage..

36 freakin' coins.. biggest Mint set ever.. quality of the coins flagellates from VERY VERY nice to "eh" to "eww!".. the Denver coins generally look higher-quality / fewer dings and hits than the Philly coins.. the Philly Kennedy has a nice gash right in the middle of his cheek.. the cents all look fine, the rest of the coins are what I'd normally expect for a modern US Mint Set..

The huge holders were properly glued together, so, no coins spilling out and rattling around loose, as happened with my 2008 sets.. no need to box it up and return it for a replacement.. I still don't like these new, huge holders though.. I prefer the old cello-packs..

All the coins that are supposed to have edge lettering have edge lettering.. no blanks, no over-lapping.. they all look normal from what I can see.. both Dimes look Full Band to me.. both Nickels look Full Steps.. (I don't plan to tear this set apart and have any of the coins slabbed.. but of course, I'm curious how the nicer ones would grade.. if there are any 70s lurking in there.. or in the bajillion other US Mint and Proof Sets I own.. but I'm not made of money.. it's just be prohibitively expensive to find out..)..

There was a little insert card in the box that reads::

"A Message from the United States Mint about the Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Coins contained in your 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set..

Given the metallic composition used for the 2009 uncirculated one-cent coins - - the same used for the original 1909 Lincoln Cents (95% copper, 3% Zinc, 2% Tin, and 12% creamy chocolate center* ;-) .. - - the alloy readily tarnishes. The United States Mint has used anti-tarnish treatments to minimize this impact on the appearance of the uncirculated coins. However, the alloy used for the one-cent coins in this year's uncirculated coin set is expected to tarnish more over time than the previous years' plated zinc one-cent coins."

So that's that.. as I stared at this veritable dealer display case of coins.. the thought smacked me in the face that Abe Lincoln missed out being on yet two MORE coins in this set by one year.. his Presidential $ will be a 2010 coin.. so.. "He'll be back"..

    Harv

*for the humor-impaired, the cents do not actually contain 12% creamy chocolate center.. it's 12% cheddar cheese.. image

That would've been super duper to have the $1 coin this year too!

  • I was unable to order when they went on sale, I placed my order on 10/18/09 at 0450 AM and was placed on back order, never thinking I would actually get a set. Checked my accounnt today and was surprised to see "In Stock and Reserved" Order number is 33239XXX image
  • Arrived today...nice.

    Edit to add.

One thing that does seem to be missing... the Mint should IMO put how many of these sets were produced (for easy future reference) on the COA. Now we all know there were 50K, but it would have been nice for future collectors. It just states 500,000 of all mintages.

Of course matching serial numbers in a tamper proof seal on a single lens, the COA, and embossed on the packaging would have been a nice touch (probably cost a bit more) and enhanced collect ability. image
  • I got my set a few days ago and really like it. Great coins commemorating a great man. My only thought is that I would have preferred that the case was designed like a Prestige set, so that you could easily see the obverse (reverse) of the coins.

Anyone else agree or are you content with the set as is??

with FIFO apparently not being strictly followed, how will these go out:

"The four-coin Lincoln proof cent set moved higher by 10,921 to reach a cumulative total of 156,734."

And.. didn't the Prestige sets have genuine leather covers, instead of this faux-leather-like substance?.. I'm pretty sure they did.. also, mounting the coins they way they were in the Prestige Sets would prevent anyone from doing a switcheroo, popping out capsules, and popping in flawed coins, if they have multiple sets..

That might be a bargain by next week at this time!!!
  • The "prize" arrived today. Very impressed. It is definitely packaging, packaging, packaging. It would have been nice to have seen the reverse side of the coins but, I'm not complaining. I would not worry about wondering if PCGS would consider putting a special label or something to that effect to denote a first issue, strike, etc. I see no way PCGS could further enhance the desirablity of this set with the way it is packaged from the Mint. The set is a keeper, just the way it is. IMHO.

    Bully, me 2!

I can't decide if it is suppose to be like this.

However, when I fold open the Gettysburg address, I must say it would be better not glued, because otherwise the Gettysburg address would not lay flat and any pressure on the flap would not be good long-term.

The sticky glue looks like the temporary glue they use when they send you a new Credit Card to keep the card on the paper till you remove it to sign the back.

I just Peeled it all away and it looks great. The surface was not damaged.

I'll try and get some pictures up, shortly.

Back in the Stone Age.. we called that "Rubber Cement".. yes, it peels away cleanly, even from paper, if you don't do it too quickly.. otherwise, you stand a chance of ripping the paper.. or you can just kind of rub it off into a ball by applying x pounds of pressure with a finger..

Rumor has it you can still actually buy it in actual stores.. image

Since this set sold out in one day, or two days, depending on whom you choose to believe as your authority on such things, and all 50,000 will probably ship within a month of release.. they're ALL first this, first that, early this, early that.. even if a TPG would put some kind of designation on it, it would be utterly pointless, and a waste of money.. IMO..

  • Maybe I am just not getting this but......How can FS or ER be even mentioned since those designations pertain to the coins and when they were struck. As far as I can figure it does not pertain to the packaging....and these coins were struck quite a while ago.

    Just sayin'.........

PCGS is not going to FS these.

I received mine today. They are not a perfect set of coins but the overall set looks great.

The mint (and NARA) made something of significance that goes beyond just the coins.

I ordered mine on the 16th at 0800, I wasn't too hopeful, but my order status changed yesterday to "in stock and reserved" and the cancel button went poof. Even though my ancestory is mostly south of the Mason Dixon, I still like the set, and think Lincoln was the best president the USA ever had.

I am starting to think the selection of the designs were based on how they fit together as a group not so much as stand alone issues.

When coming across the log cabin cent, in rolls searching, it isn't a very interesting design. Being part of such a presentation permits it to be seen in the context that it was meant to represent.
  • I was just looking at the pictures above and something struck me as odd, maybe just another example of what the mint has done with their priorities, but...

Look at that cover. Seems like a Lincoln set title was an afterthought. Look at me, I'm THE MINT.

Mine arrived today....ord #33165XXX. Leaving it sealed (not for any other reason besides possible flipping) until I know for certain if order #2 is shipping or getting cancelled. That order went from 'on hold' to 'in process' and haven't received any emails from the mint, so, I guess anything's possible.
    I'll come up with something.

I was really looking forward to this set...

    Received it today...

Spine wasn't attached. Not a big deal I can re-glue it.

One of the Lincolns has a few spots.

Another of the Lincolns has a haze.

    The COA was missing.
