Major Smash and grab in central NJ

JulianJulian Posts: 3,370 ✭✭✭

My car was broken into a few hours ago in Pine Brook, NJ.

Taken was virtually the entire inventory including several significant coins.

I believe that this may have been done with a tracking device on the car as I was returning to MD from Coinfest in Stamford, CT, where I may have been targeted.

If you are offered any great coins from an unknown source, please contact me as I have a pretty good feel for what was in the inventory, but do not have any complete lists.

There were common gold coins, bullion, currency, etc.

Many thanx for any assistance that you can extend to me.

Wow, I'll definitely keep an eye out. I've viewed your inventory (at least what was in the cases) a number of times and would recognize a number of the coins, so hopefully I can be of help...

I'm terribly sorry to hear this. For utmost accuracy, Pine Brook looks like it's more North Eastern NJ, heavy heavy NY and Newark influences... so if something pops up it could be anywhere in The City and the surrounding... obviously, a massive population center. Tho, Im sure any NY, NJ collectors dealers will undoubtly read this post regardless of the specific location.

Here's hoping they're caught FAST while everything is in one spot!

That's TERRIBLE! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thieves suck!

I'm happy that you're okay and that they opted for a crash and grab instead of a more aggressive technique.

That's just awful! Kinda concerned that if they did use a tracking devise, they will likely be a bit more sophisticated in the fencing of your coins. Fortunately you were not present as they may have been armed. I hope the perps do slip up and soon so that you may recover your inventory and they may be put away.

so sorry to hear this happened Julian,

you mentioned the inventory contained bullion......in my opinion this will be the first (& easiest) thing for the theives to attempt to move......for this reason you should contact area jewelers, pawn shops and anyone dealing in bullion post haste

    and good luck!

    First,

I am glad that you weren't in the car when it happened.

    Second,

I hope that you can get your stuff back.
    Sorry that this happened.

Perhaps lists of the major inventory sent quietly to some of the local shops/players would be a good place to start.

I hope you and anyone who was with you were unharmed. Much of Friday was spent with me speaking with you and looking over your inventory, so I will be on high alert for those pieces. By the way, I lived for years in Pine Brook, NJ and it is considered northern NJ and also has many major NJ arteries that pass through it including RT80, RT46 and RT3.

Not good news.. Sorry to hear your loss.. Things like this will only get worse in near future. Urbans areas will invade more and more as the news of bullion prices rise and also the lack of jobs for that quick buck..

I would guess these coins would be melted and sold as bars somewhere no matter how many ounces there were..

Black market crooks will also dispose of other items.. I wonder if Julian had serial numbers on his notes.. Maybe customs or Homeland security could be notified if anyone tried to smuggle these notes out of the country..

Lastly, as terrible as this is, I am glad Julian is ok. Some nice rare coins that are worth huge $$$ may get melted for beans for a quick buck and someone that doesn't know the true rarity of such coins would truly be a waste and hit to the nusimatic hobby. image

To all dealers and coin collectors, be careful and be smarter than these idiots.. Tracking device? Well in hindsight, I for one would make sure rare coins would be stashed apart from a regular inventory..

I have been voliated numerous times as in home invasions and the victim of strong armed robberies. I have never forgotten what some crome 38cals have looked up close..

Fingers crossed Julian, but lesson could be learned here everyone... John..
