This sucks to go through such a thing. I hope you had insurance on everything. Get out a complete list of coins right away. Report this to NCIC right away. I think I would make sure the local police are in contact with these guys. Good luck and for sure everyone on the forum is on the lookout.
I am very sorry to hear this, Julian. Damn crooks. I add my hopes to the others who hope everything is recovered quickly.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Many thanx for your thoughts, wishes, and assistance. There were over 1000 coins, including over 300 slabs. There are too many to even attempt a list, but if you are suspicious about anything that is offered to you, I will answer my phone, 301 785 5640, almost anytime and really appreciate any assistance. Best Julian
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows. I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
I am very sorry to hear about this Julian. I am glad that you were not hurt. I hope that you coins get returned somehow, or else things work out in your favor. It is really sad to hear that things like this happen.

I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
I'll definitely keep my eye out for you. At Coinfest, I spent quite a bit of time at your table, viewing some beautiful Barber and Seated material. I would easily recognize some of this material if I saw it again. Keep your chin up, the coin community is a tight group and we'll nab these b_____ds sooner than later.
Do you know if the police are searching for any possible surveillance cameras which may have caught the crime in action? Just a thought since this is what led to the capture of someone who broke into my car 2 years ago, after stealing about $25 in change!
Most importantly, glad you were not hurt or personally there when the robbery took place. Hopefully, the coins are recovered and the SOB's caught. I will keep your number handy.

I am sorry to hear about your trouble; where there any video cameras in the area where your car got robbed; maybe someone caught in. Did you check with the businesses in the area?
After having a great time at the show, I`m really bummed out. I hope everything turns out OK for Julian. I always stop at his table to say hello. I was selling at this show and offered him a coin, but did not look at his inventory. I wish I had. Thank God he is not hurt.
wondering where Julian was when this happened, and were coins taken from trunk or inside car. I realize it's probably not a good idea to discuss details, but one can't help but wonder what the circumstances were. I remember reading about another similar incident a year or so ago -- someone left coin show and was robbed of inventory. Makes you wonder who and how they choose the victim. Also makes my homeaphobe (sp) worse.
Julian, I'm sorry this happened and I too am glad to hear that you are OK. FWIW we'll pass the word here in central IL. Best wishes for finding the perpetrators and recovering your inventory. Regards, Jack

Sorry to hear of the theft Julian. I hope the thieves are caught, the items recovered and returned to you undamaged and the thieves charged, tried, convicted and punished [and beat up badly along the way].
My thoughts of course are with you during this difficult time. I will go on your website and make a note of the material I can see and keep an eye out during my upcoming shows. While as many others have stated it is unlikely much will show up out West here, I will be at different areas of the country. I will pass on the information to other dealers in the area as well.
Not knowing any details of what happened nor making any judgement, a gps could have been used. This is the 4th circumstance I am aware of in the past few years where a dealer was robbed while driving to and from a show. It's also maybe even more likely to be followed, especially from a show where they can easily recognize you or your vehicle if they spot you going to and from a show or loading, and then the thieves commit the act when you stop for a break, coffee, dinner or whatever.
Some common sense things to keep in mind whether you be a collector or dealer. 1. Keep an eye out when leaving a venue as to anyone or any car (s) that follows for long distance. 2. Don't stop unless you need too. 3. If you do stop try and make it a place where you can park your car in plain sight and never be out of sight of your vehicle. 4. If you have to stop for a bathroom break park your car in as public of a place you can and be as quick as possible. 5. Take different routes home. While we usually all take the shortest route and gas is money spent, as you get closer to home take a different road or route, mix it up ALL THE TIME as you get close to home. 6. If you stop to get a bite to eat and it's feasible to do so carry your valuables with you into and out of the restaurant. Obviously thats not too feasible if you'er a dealer with a lot of material. 7. The bad guys are creative and can be very clever. So you have to mix it up and do the same. 8. As bad as it would be to lose your property just remember this most importantly, coins, inventory and money can eventually be replaced, none of it is worth your life.
Julian, I hope you are able to recover your property and that things work out for you. I hope you don't mind me adding a few safety thoughts here but it seemed like a good opportunity to make us all think too!
Do what I do, rent a boring and unassuming car. When I had to move my bullion and collection from Florida back home to Jersey, I didn't take my car, I rented a Camry.

was there any security cam where you were in Stamford,CT? Maybe you can find out if video is available from where u parked and can see if there was a device put on it...lots of cameras in use these days, maybe it will help u in this case.

Yeah, make sure to look at all possible options. ATMs, banks, traffic lights, convenience stores. All of these have security cameras that might have caught your robbery on tape.

Many of these coins are unique or rare enough that the thiefs will not be able to get rid of them. My thoughts are that these guys have no idea what they have and will sit on the stuff once they start to realize what they have. Chances are they are small time crooks that got lucky or actually unlucky because they will be caught.
I'm very sorry for your loss...and ashamed to be from Central NJ. I hope they get the guys and put 'em away for a very long time. I'll pray for just that.

Pretty scary thought being tracked to your home.
Glad you're okay.
